Scansonic HD MB6 B Floorstanding Speaker, Walnut (Pair)

The Scansonic HD MB6 B is the floorstanding flagship of the MB series, with a ribbon tweeter and six 5.25-inch carbon drivers in a line-array arrangement, here in real walnut wood veneer.

The warm wood finish gives the large floorstander character and takes away any severity – a flagship that also holds its own as a piece of furniture.

Why the MB6 B?

Like Raidho, Scansonic HD belongs to the Danish manufacturer Dantax – hence the ribbon tweeter with a tensioned foil diaphragm for transparent highs. Two midrange drivers and four woofers with carbon diaphragms form a time-aligned line array.

The walnut veneer is real wood and explains the premium over the lacquered versions. The technology and tuning are identical – you get the same flagship in a warmer look.

What you hear

A large, precisely layered soundstage with extension down to 27 Hz and effortless dynamics. The MB6 B renders the finest nuances and stays composed even at high volume. Highs, mids and bass mesh seamlessly.

The time-aligned driver arrangement ensures exact timing and a stable image at the listening position.

Who is the MB6 B for?

For listeners who want to combine the top model of the MB series with a warm natural material – in large rooms. Ideal with a powerful, high-quality integrated amplifier or streaming amplifier. Plain talk: in a small room the MB6 B can't play to its reserves; there, the MB3.5 or MB5 fit better. For large spaces it's the reference.

Our verdict

The walnut version is the coziest flagship of the MB series – sonically identical, visually in a class of its own. i-fidelity.net and HiFi News highlighted the tweeter's outstanding resolution. We at HD Zürisee in Wädenswil will help you find the right amplifier to go with it.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the walnut version cost more?

Because it's real wood veneer instead of lacquer. Natural wood takes more effort to select and process, and every grain is unique. Sonically, the walnut version is identical to black and white – the premium is purely in the finish.

Is the price for a pair or a single unit?

The MB6 B is sold in pairs; the price applies to both speakers. As a floorstanding speaker it needs no stands. So your stereo flagship is complete with a single purchase.

What does the line-array arrangement achieve?

Six identical drivers offer more diaphragm area than a single large woofer while staying fast and precise. Time-aligned, this produces a stable soundstage and effortless timing – plenty of level without strain.

Which amplifier suits the MB6 B?

A powerful, high-quality integrated amplifier or streaming amplifier from around 50 watts is a good basis. Stable, controlled power gets the best out of the six drivers. Which chain suits your room is something we'll work out together.
