Collection: Subwoofer Cables

A subwoofer cable connects the sub output of an amplifier or AV receiver to the subwoofer and carries the low-frequency signal.

Why a good subwoofer cable?

The subwoofer cable carries the low-frequency signal from the sub output (LFE/pre-out) to the active subwoofer. Because this run often crosses the whole room, good shielding against hum and interference matters especially. Dedicated subwoofer cables are built for this and ensure a clean, quiet bass – instead of a hum creeping in through poorly shielded cable.

What matters

What matters is effective shielding, firmly seated RCA connectors, and sufficient length for the often greater distance to the sub. Some subwoofers want the signal on a single input, others on L and R – for that there are Y-cables. At HD Zürisee in Wädenswil we look at your subwoofer and the output of your receiver or amplifier and choose the right connection.

Who it's for – and straight talk

For stereo as well as home-cinema setups with an active subwoofer – from the first sub in the living room to a multichannel system with a dedicated LFE channel.

Straight talk: with a sub cable, shielding matters above all, not belief in miracles. A well-shielded cable of matching length keeps hum out – that's usually all it takes for clean bass. We choose based on length and connection, not on the price tag.

Verdict: good shielding, firm fit, matching length, and a Y-cable if needed – then the subwoofer plays quietly and hum-free. Tell us which sub and which output you have, and the connection will fit.

Frequently asked questions

What sets a subwoofer cable apart from a normal RCA cable?

Subwoofer cables are designed for the often long runs and for good shielding against hum. Technically it's an RCA connection, but with a focus on interference resistance over greater distances. For the LFE path, that's the more sensible choice than a thin standard lead.

Do I need a Y-cable for the subwoofer?

That depends on the subwoofer: if it only has one LFE input, a simple cable is enough. If it wants the signal on L and R, you use a Y-cable. Tell us the model, and we'll assign the right variant.

How long can a subwoofer cable be?

Because the sub is often positioned far away, greater lengths are normal and unproblematic, as long as the shielding is good. More important than short runs is that the cable is well shielded and firmly plugged in. If you need a particular length, we'll find the right one.

Which output does the subwoofer connect to?

On AV receivers, to the sub or LFE output; on stereo amplifiers, to a pre-out or sub-out, if present. If your amplifier has no such output, there are other ways – we'll clarify that based on your devices.

Do I need an expensive subwoofer cable?

No. What matters is good shielding and a firm fit, not the price. A solid, correctly shielded cable of matching length reliably does its job. We advise you based on need, not the price tag.

Why buy subwoofer cables at HD Zürisee?

Because we look at the subwoofer and the output together and tell you whether a simple cable or a Y-cable fits, and what length you need. That way the bass plays cleanly and hum-free. We advise you personally and deliver throughout Switzerland – free shipping from CHF 190.
