AES/EBU Cables

An AES/EBU cable transmits the digital audio signal in balanced form over a 110-ohm XLR connection – the standard from the professional studio world that also turns up in high-end home systems.

At HD Zürisee we carry the ViaBlue NF-S2 for this, a balanced connection between a digital transport and a DAC. Balanced transmission is inherently less sensitive to interference than an unbalanced coax or Toslink connection – an advantage that shows up mainly with longer cable runs or electrically noisy environments. Plain talk: most CD players and streamers for home use don't have an AES/EBU output at all – this connection only pays off if your device actually has one. If it doesn't, coaxial cable or optical cable are the right choice.
