Scansonic HD MB6 B Floorstanding Speaker, White (Pair)

The Scansonic HD MB6 B is the floorstanding flagship of the MB series, with a ribbon tweeter and six 5.25-inch carbon drivers in a line-array arrangement.

In silky matte white, the large cabinet looks lighter than it is – and integrates into bright rooms without visually overwhelming the space.

Why the MB6 B?

Scansonic HD belongs to the Danish Dantax group, which also includes Raidho – hence the noble ribbon tweeter with its clamped foil diaphragm. Two midrange drivers and four woofers with carbon diaphragms form a time-aligned line array around the tweeter.

Six drivers deliver plenty of cone area with the speed of small drivers. Reworked crossovers and a heavily braced cabinet ensure a linear, calm sound.

What you hear

A large, precisely layered soundstage with bass extension down to 27 Hz and effortless dynamics. The MB6 B resolves the finest details and stays composed and clean even at loud levels. Highs, mids and bass merge into a coherent whole.

The time-aligned driver layout ensures precise timing and a stable image at the listening position.

Who is the MB6 B suited for?

For large rooms and listeners who want the MB series' top model without compromise. Ideal with a powerful, high-quality integrated amplifier or streaming amplifier. Plain talk: in a small room the MB6 B plays below its level – there, the MB3.5 or MB5 is the better choice. For large spaces it is the reference of the series.

Our verdict

The flagship of the MB series – big, but never showy. i-fidelity.net and HiFi News particularly highlighted the tweeter's outstanding resolution. We at HD Zürisee in Wädenswil advise you on room, amplifier and placement so the MB6 B can show its full capability.

Frequently asked questions

Is the price for a pair or a single unit?

The MB6 B is sold in pairs, and the price applies to both speakers. As a floorstanding speaker it needs no stands. That completes your stereo flagship in one purchase.

Does the colour affect the sound?

No. Black, white and walnut share the same drivers, cabinet and tuning. The finish is purely a matter of interior design. You get the same MB6 B in every colour, sound-wise.

What does the line-array arrangement achieve?

Six identical drivers offer more cone area than a single large woofer while staying fast and precise. Arranged time-aligned, this results in a stable soundstage and effortless timing – plenty of level without strain.

Which amplifier suits the MB6 B?

A powerful, high-quality integrated amplifier or streaming amplifier from about 50 watts is a good basis. Stable power gets the best out of the six drivers. Which chain suits your room, we'll figure out together.
