The Canton Movie 400 is a 5.1 speaker set made up of four larger satellites, a centre, and an active subwoofer, delivering more soundstage and depth than the more compact Movie 200.

Same idea, bigger cabinets: the satellites grow from 12 to 29 centimetres in height, pulling more bass out of the enclosure themselves before the subwoofer even kicks in. Who is the Movie 400 for?

Plain talk: here too you definitely need an amplifier – the satellites deliver more bass than the Movie 200, but they still play no sound at all without an amplifier stage. Mainly the satellites: on the Movie 400 they're noticeably larger at 29 instead of 12 centimetres in height, carry more cone area, and so play with more bass of their own and higher levels. The centre and subwoofer connection are conceptually the same, and total weight is correspondingly higher at 19.3 kg.

Do I need an additional amplifier?

Yes, essentially. Only the subwoofer is active; the four satellites and the centre need an AV receiver or Canton's Smart Amp 5.1. Without that piece, half the set stays silent – tell us what you already own and we'll clarify that beforehand.

What room size is the Movie 400 sufficient for?
