Thorens TP-92 OEM I – 10-Inch Tonearm (Loose Cables)
Couldn't load pickup availability
The Thorens TP-92 OEM I is a precision radial tonearm in 10-inch length with loose internal wiring for direct connection — the separately available OEM version of the proven TP-92 from the sub-chassis turntables TD 1600 and TD 1601.
If you're building a turntable, converting one, or want to fit a second arm to a matching armboard, you can get the Thorens arm here on its own — in the longer 10-inch variant for a more favourable tracking error angle.
Why the TP-92 OEM I?
Because it makes the quality of the standard arm from the 1600/1601 family available separately: height-adjustable (VTA), with a removable headshell and clean adjustability. The OEM I version comes with loose tonearm cables — ideal if you want to go straight to your own phono wiring or a fixed solution in the turntable.
What you get
A mature radial tonearm that carries fine as well as heavy cartridges cleanly and can be adjusted reproducibly. The 10-inch length reduces the tracking error angle compared to a 9-inch arm, and with it the distortion at the outer and inner grooves — a detail you can hear with fine cartridges.
Who is the TP-92 OEM I for?
For DIY builders, restorers and dealers who need a high-quality Thorens arm on its own. To be clear: you should know your turntable's mounting distance and effective mass — the arm needs to be installed and adjusted to match. If you're unsure, we'll work it out together beforehand.
Our verdict
A cleanly made, versatile radial arm at a fair price — especially as a 10-inch version with loose cables, a flexible basis for your own projects. We at HD Zürisee in Wädenswil help you with selection, mounting and alignment.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between the TP-92 OEM I and OEM II?
The connection: OEM I is supplied with loose tonearm cables, OEM II has a 5-pin mini-DIN socket for a plug-in tonearm cable. Sonically and mechanically both are identical — the choice depends on how you want to wire the arm.
Which turntables does the TP-92 fit?
The TP-92 is the standard arm of the Thorens sub-chassis models TD 1600 and TD 1601. On its own, it fits compatible armboards with the correct mounting distance. What matters is a matching effective mass for the cartridge and correct geometry — we'll check that with you.
What's the benefit of the 10-inch length?
A longer arm reduces the tracking error angle across the record and with it the distortion, especially in the inner grooves. The effect is subtle, but audible with high-resolution cartridges. In return, the 10-inch version needs a bit more space on the turntable than a 9-inch arm.
Why buy the TP-92 OEM I from HD Zürisee?
Because a tonearm bought separately stands or falls with mounting and alignment. We work out geometry and compatibility with you, mount and align it on request, and tune the arm to your system. As an experienced team in Wädenswil, you're not on your own afterwards either.
