The Tannoy Platinum F6 is a 3-way floorstanding speaker that combines two 165mm paper composite diaphragms with a centrally placed 25mm silk dome in a slim bass reflex cabinet. In black, it's the discreet variant: 1.08 metres tall, but only 30 centimetres wide – a floorstander that doesn't eat up the room.
The F6 is the bigger sibling of the B6 bookshelf speaker. And the difference is exactly what most people end up reaching for a floorstander for anyway: bass that's simply there on its own.
Why the Platinum F6?
Because it gets two things right. First: the tweeter sits between the woofer and midrange driver. This smooths dispersion in the critical transition zone and makes the sweet spot noticeably wider – you don't have to sit dead centre to get a clean stereo image. Second: the two drivers are filtered separately (350 Hz and 2.5 kHz), which relieves the midrange and lets the bass reach deeper. Add to that bi-wiring terminals, an internally braced cabinet and 87 dB efficiency.
What you hear
Noticeably more foundation than the B6, without the bass starting to wobble. It goes down to about 40 Hz, which is enough for electric bass, kick drum and most film scenes. The midrange stays open and present, voices stand freely in the room. And the F6 can go loud – without the music falling apart.
Who is the Platinum F6 for?
For medium to large living spaces, for music and film alike, and for anyone who wants a full-fledged floorstanding speaker without going well over CHF 2000.
Plainly put: in a small room, the F6 is too much. Below twenty square meters, the bass becomes a burden – then the B6 is the smarter choice, even if it looks less imposing. And yes, it wants distance from the back wall. Anyone who puts it in the corner has bought an expensive subwoofer with a tweeter attached.
Our verdict
The F6 is what many people look for and rarely find: a fully grown floorstanding speaker at a price where you'd normally have to compromise. It's not the last word in resolution, but it's musical, powerful and honest. Anyone who claims there are no grown-up floorstanding speakers left under CHF 1500 hasn't heard the F6 yet. That can be changed.

Frequently Asked Questions
How big does the room need to be for the Tannoy Platinum F6?
From about 20 square meters upward. The F6 is built for medium to large rooms and needs volume to play out its bass foundation. In small rooms it quickly becomes too much – there the compact Platinum B6 fits better.
What amplifier does the Platinum F6 need?
20 to 150 watts at 8 ohms is recommended. With 87 dB efficiency, it's forgiving and plays cleanly even on mid-range integrated amplifiers. Anyone who likes listening loud or has a large room drives more relaxed with more power reserve.
Can the Platinum F6 be run in bi-wiring?
Yes. The F6 has four gold-plated terminals and is prepared for bi-wiring. Whether it's sonically worthwhile depends on the amplifier and cable – we'll tell you honestly when the effort pays off and when the bridges can simply stay in place.
How much distance from the wall does the Tannoy Platinum F6 need?
At least a hand's width, better more. The bass reflex port fires rearward; if the F6 stands in a corner or an alcove, the bass becomes thick and indistinct. Pull it a bit into the room and angle it slightly toward the listening position – that costs nothing and brings the most benefit.
Why buy the Tannoy Platinum F6 from HD Zürisee?
Because floorstanding speakers depend especially heavily on the room – and that's exactly where a product page alone won't help you. We look at placement, amplifier and cabling together with you, deliver in the region and set up at your home if you'd like.
Pairs well with
An amplifier with some reserve from our amplifiers and decent speaker cables – with bi-wiring, it's worth checking the length. The whole brand: Tannoy.
