Collection: TANNOY

Tannoy is a British speaker manufacturer that has relied on the Dual Concentric principle since 1926: the tweeter sits at the centre of the mid/bass driver, so the sound comes from a single point. That produces a coherent, time-aligned soundstage – and is the reason recording studios have used the brand for decades.

At HD Zürisee in Wädenswil we carry Tannoy across the whole range: from the affordable bookshelf speaker to the Prestige classic, which is more a piece of furniture than a device.

The Tannoy range with us

  • Platinum – the entry point: the B6 as a bookshelf speaker, the F6 as a floorstander, in three finishes.
  • Legacy – Arden, Cheviot and Eaton as a tribute to the classics of the 70s.
  • Prestige Gold Reference – Stirling, Turnberry, Kensington, Canterbury, GRF up to the Westminster Royal. Plus the Prestige GR Super Tweeter and the compact Autograph Mini.
  • SGM – the studio monitor line with 10, 12 and 15 inch drivers.

Which Tannoy suits you?

The question is almost always decided by the room, not the budget. Under twenty square metres, a bookshelf speaker like the Platinum B6 is the smarter choice – a large floorstander overwhelms a small room, however good it is. From around twenty square metres upward, it gets interesting: the Legacy series for the warm sound of the 70s, the SGM studio monitors for precise control, and Prestige for anyone who wants the classic Tannoy sound and has the space for it.

Straight talk

The Prestige series is a world of its own: high efficiency, warm and effortless sound, happy with just a few watts – even from a tube amp. In return, it needs space and fits visually into a classic living room, not a minimalist one. Anyone after a modern, slim hi-fi look is better served by Platinum. We'd rather tell you that upfront.

Frequently asked questions about Tannoy

What is Dual Concentric?

A driver in which the tweeter sits at the centre of the mid/bass driver. Both radiate from the same point, time-aligned and with even dispersion. The result is very stable imaging – the stereo image doesn't collapse the moment you're not sitting exactly in the middle.

Does a tube amplifier suit Tannoy?

Often superbly, with the Prestige series. The high efficiency pairs well with low-power tube amplifiers. With Platinum, a good solid-state integrated amplifier is usually the more sensible choice. We're happy to work out the right combination with you.

Which Tannoy suits small rooms?

The Platinum B6. It's a compact bookshelf speaker that plays in a balanced way in rooms up to around 25 square metres. For more depth, a subwoofer can be added – we'll help you with the right crossover.
