The Scansonic HD MB2.5 B is a slim 2.5-way floorstanding speaker with a ribbon tweeter and two carbon drivers in a curved, heavily braced enclosure.

In silky matte white, the slim column almost disappears against a light-coloured wall – until the first note reveals that this is a full-fledged floorstanding speaker, not a decorative object.

Why the MB2.5 B?

Behind Scansonic HD stands the Danish manufacturer Dantax, which also owns Raidho – and that's where the ribbon tweeter comes from: a wafer-thin foil diaphragm that draws highs finely and naturally. Two 5.25-inch drivers with carbon diaphragms form the 2.5-way system, in which the second driver specifically reinforces the bass.

The rounded cabinet edges and the carbon bracing keep resonances small. That keeps the sound free of the cabinet's influence – and the slim silhouette fits discreetly into the room.

What you hear

Clear, detailed highs, precise mids and tight bass down to 36 Hz – a lot of foundation for so little floor space. The soundstage is wide and stable, voices feel tangible. The MB2.5 B sounds open and balanced without ever seeming strained.

The adjustable aluminium feet ensure secure footing and clean coupling to parquet or carpet.

Who is the MB2.5 B suited for?

For small to medium-sized rooms where a bulky floorstanding speaker would be out of place. Best with a good integrated amplifier or streaming amplifier. Plain talk: anyone wanting to fill a very large room or wanting headroom at high levels should look at the MB3.5, MB5 or MB6 instead. For normal living rooms the MB2.5 B is ideally tuned.

Is the price for a pair or a single unit?

The MB2.5 B is sold in pairs, and the price applies to both speakers. As a floorstanding speaker it stands directly on the floor and needs no separate stands. So your stereo pair is complete without any further purchase.

Does the colour affect the sound?

No. Black, white and walnut share drivers, cabinet and tuning. The finish is purely a matter of taste and interior design. Sonically you get exactly the same MB2.5 B in every colour.

What does 2.5-way mean for the MB2.5 B?

Two bass drivers work on the bass, but only one additionally plays the mids. The second exclusively supports the low end. This brings more bass from a slim cabinet without colouring the mids – ideal for slim floorstanding speakers.

Which amplifier suits the MB2.5 B?
