The Scansonic HD M15.2 is a compact 2-way bookshelf speaker with a ribbon tweeter and a rear-mounted passive radiator. It brings the technology of the Danish M series onto the shelf – and into smaller rooms where a floorstander would be too much.

Why the M15.2?

Because a genuine high-end ribbon tweeter is at work here, the kind you'd otherwise find two price brackets higher up. Add to that a 6.5-inch woofer/midrange driver for surprisingly strong mids and depth. The rear-mounted passive radiator extends the bass without the pumping of a bass reflex port. The result: a big, airy sound from a remarkably small cabinet.

What you hear

Detail and imaging you'd hardly expect from a compact. Voices stand clear and present, the highs are refined and don't fatigue even after hours. Sure, the very lowest bass octaves stay, by design, the preserve of a large floorstander – but the M15.2 plays fast, clean and with real musicality. The magnetic front cover can stay on or come off, to taste.

Who is the M15.2 suited for?

For smaller living rooms, the home office or bedroom, and anyone who wants high-end on a small footprint – on stands or on a shelf. Straight talk: if you want the very biggest, deepest cinema bass or want to fill a hall, you're better served by the M20.2 or M30.2. But for near to medium-distance listening, the M15.2 is a little piece of magic.

Our verdict

The M15.2 is proof that compact doesn't have to sound small. A bookshelf speaker with character and audiophile substance that plays far beyond its size. Which placement and amplifier get the best out of it is something we're happy to discuss with you at HD Zürisee in Wädenswil.

Frequently asked questions

Does the M15.2 suit small rooms?

Yes, that's exactly what it's made for. The M15.2 plays big in small to medium-sized rooms without overwhelming them. Thanks to a passive radiator instead of a bass reflex port, the bass stays clean and controlled even near a wall or on a shelf.

Do I need speaker stands for the M15.2?

Recommended, but not essential. On a sturdy stand at ear height, the M15.2 sounds most open and spacious. But it also works on a shelf – with a bit of distance from the rear. We're happy to advise you on the right placement.

How much bass does such a compact speaker deliver?

More than you'd expect. The passive radiator extends the low end noticeably downward, cleanly and with fast impulse response. The deepest octaves remain the preserve of large floorstanders – but for most music in normal rooms, the M15.2 is easily enough.

What amplifier suits the M15.2?

With 87 dB sensitivity it likes a clean-sounding amplifier with some power; Scansonic recommends 50 to 150 watts. A good integrated or streaming amplifier pairs excellently. We'll help you find the right combination.

Why buy the Scansonic M15.2 from HD Zürisee?

Because we know how to get the most out of a compact – from placement to amplifier. As a specialist shop on Lake Zurich we advise you in person and take care of delivery and setup. You're not just buying a box, but a solution for your room.
