The Ortofon Protection Caps are a pair of transparent stylus protection caps for cartridges and styli of the Concorde and OM series.

A cap costs nothing compared with a new stylus – and it prevents exactly that moment when the tonearm slips after all.

Why the Protection Caps?

According to Ortofon, the stylus guard limits damage if the cartridge slides across a record or falls onto it. During storage and transport the cap also protects the delicate stylus from touching and knocks.

A pair of caps for Concorde and OM cartridges (Ortofon names the Concorde MkI and OM series). They come as a pair so that the second cartridge or the spare stylus is protected straight away.

Who is the Protection Caps for?

For owners of OM and Concorde cartridges, especially anyone who often swaps, stores or transports their cartridges. Straight talk: The caps are not one-size-fits-all: they are cut for Concorde and OM. Concorde MkII has its own caps, as do 2M and SPU. And they do not replace careful handling of the tonearm.

Which cartridges are the Protection Caps meant for?

For cartridges and replacement styli of the OM series and the Concorde family – Ortofon names Concorde MkI and OM. For Concorde MkII, 2M and SPU there are separate caps. Send us your model and we will tell you which fits.

How many caps are in the set?

One pair, i.e. two caps, at CHF 10 per pair. With it you can protect two cartridges at once or store a spare stylus covered.

Does the cap also protect during playback?

The cap is removed for playback; it protects the stylus during storage and transport and – according to Ortofon – if the cartridge accidentally slides across a record or falls. That is what it is for, not as a permanent accessory on a running cartridge.
