The Meze Audio Elite is an open-back magnetostatic high-end over-ear headphone and the flagship of the Meze headphone line.
It takes the large-format Rinaro array and refines it with the Parus diaphragm into an uncompromising reference. When there should be no more excuses – sonically or in craftsmanship – the search ends here. Awarded the EISA Hi-Fi Award.
Why the Elite?
At its core sits the Rinaro Isodynamic Hybrid Array (MZ3SE driver) with the especially light Parus diaphragm (0.11 g) – a structured film that combines stiffness and lightness, working even more precisely and with lower distortion as a result. Large oval area (102 × 73 mm), housing in CNC aluminium and carbon in the refined Tungsten finish, connected via two 4-pin mini-XLR. A headphone built like a precision instrument.
What you hear
A reproduction of rare naturalness: enormous resolution, perfect calm between the notes, and a soundstage that precisely places dancers and instruments alike – without ever sounding analytical or cold. The Elite doesn't make a fuss about its abilities; it simply shows them, album by album.
Who is the Elite for?
For listeners looking for the very best and who have, or want to build, the electronics for it. Plain talk: at 32 Ω and 101 dB it's easier to drive than the Empyrean II, but a headphone in this class deserves a first-rate amplifier and DAC – otherwise you give away exactly the subtleties you bought it for. Open means no isolation: an instrument for a quiet listening room.
Our verdict
The Elite is Meze's uncompromising statement – reference sound, reference build, without an obvious weak point. EISA Hi-Fi Award 2022–2023. Which chain brings it to its very best, we'll plan together with you at HD Zürisee in Wädenswil.

Frequently asked questions
What makes the Elite the flagship?
The Elite uses the especially light Parus diaphragm in the large-format Rinaro array. It is both stiffer and lighter, working more precisely and with lower distortion as a result – giving maximum resolution with natural tonality. Add to that the finest materials and full serviceability.
Does the Elite need a headphone amplifier?
Recommended, yes. At 32 Ω and 101 dB it plays on many sources, but only on a first-rate headphone amplifier and DAC does it show its full fine detail and dynamics. For this class, the matching chain is worth it – we'll plan it together with you.
What's the difference to the Empyrean II?
Both share the large Rinaro array. The Elite uses the finer Parus diaphragm and aims for the absolute reference with even more resolution and calm; the Empyrean II is the slightly warmer, equally excellent all-rounder. Best heard in direct comparison.
