DALI Opticon 6 MK2 Floorstanding Speakers, Tobacco Oak (Pair)

The DALI Opticon 6 MK2 in Tobacco Oak is a floorstanding speaker from Denmark that combines two 6½-inch bass drivers with a wood fibre cone and a hybrid tweeter module made of a dome and planar ribbon.

Tobacco Oak is the warmest of the three finishes: a calm oak look that reads more like a piece of furniture than a piece of technology. The sound doesn't change – that's down to the dome and ribbon on the die-cast aluminium front plate and DALI's SMC magnet material.

Why the Opticon 6 MK2?

Because the effort goes where you can hear it, not just where it looks good on a spec sheet. Wood fibre cones are light and well damped, the baffle measures 25 millimetres, and the cabinet is internally braced. The result is a speaker that neither exaggerates nor holds anything back.

What you'll hear

Bass down to 49 Hz that stays controlled rather than wallowing, an open midrange and treble that doesn't fatigue even after the second hour. How this behaves in your room is something we're happy to work out with you at HD Zürisee in Wädenswil.

Who is the Opticon 6 MK2 suited to?

Honestly: not for everyone. If you want bass mainly as an effect, you'll find it too restrained. If you're filling a 10 m² room, likewise – there's too much volume in the cabinet for that. From about 18 m², with room behind it, it fits. And if you like visible wood grain over high gloss, Tobacco Oak is the right call anyway.

Our verdict

Among the large DALI floorstanders, the Opticon 6 MK2 is the balanced middle way: enough cone area for substance, slim enough not to overwhelm the living room. Wood finishes also survive fashion trends more reliably than any high-gloss surface.

Frequently asked questions

Does Tobacco Oak suit light-coloured furniture?

Generally yes. Tobacco Oak is a mid, warm brown tone with a calm oak grain and acts as a point of contrast next to light wood rather than a foreign object. If you're unsure, send us a photo of your living room – we'll tell you honestly whether black or white would work better.

How deep does the Opticon 6 MK2 really go?

DALI states a frequency range of 49 to 30,000 hertz at plus/minus three decibels. For music, that's enough in the vast majority of living rooms without a subwoofer. Only once you want home cinema with deep effects does adding an active subwoofer pay off.

Do I absolutely need the spikes?

No, you have a choice. Included are spikes with M8 thread and rubber pads for the die-cast aluminium plinth, plus the assembly tools. On carpet, spikes give a secure footing; on parquet or tiled floors, the rubber pads are the gentler option. You can switch between them at any time.
