A single front grille, not a pair. The fabric is acoustically open and sits in front of the hybrid tweeter (29 mm fabric dome plus planar driver) and the wood fibre cones without damping them. Everything is held by fixing pins that engage with the surrounds of the tweeter and woofer/midrange: no drilling, no tools, no visible fixings on the baffle. Removing and refitting it takes seconds.

Who is the grille suited to – and who isn't it for?

Plain and simple: if you're in a darkened listening room chasing the very last trace of airiness in the treble, you'll want to listen without it anyway – any fabric in front of a planar tweeter costs a touch of brilliance, purely as a matter of physics. For everyday life with kids, pets and a feather duster, though, it's the cheapest insurance your speaker will ever get. And if you simply want to change the look, it's right for you too.

Does the grille affect the sound?

Not audibly in everyday use. DALI stretches an acoustically open fabric over the frame, so sound passes through practically unimpeded. Anyone listening very critically can pull it off by hand in a second – the rest of the time it protects the cones and tweeter module.

Does the black grille also fit older Opticon models?
