The Canton Vento AR 1 is an upward-firing Dolby Atmos speaker from the Vento series 2026 that creates the height layer via ceiling reflection instead of in-ceiling speakers.
In high-gloss black, it's the matching add-on module for the series' black floorstanders and bookshelf speakers. Inside the sealed enclosure work a 25 mm Black Ceramic dome behind the Transmission Front Plate and a 154 mm mid-woofer with an ATB cone. You place the AR 1 on top of a Vento speaker or hang it on the wall using the integrated wall mount.
Why the Canton Vento AR 1?
Because the height layer is the difference between good surround and true 3D sound, and not everyone wants to open up their ceiling for it. The AR 1 fires upward at an angle, the ceiling bounces the sound back to your listening position, and the layer above you is done. No core drilling, no cables in the concrete ceiling, no conversation with your landlady. Tonally it stays in the family, because it runs the same tweeter as the rest of the Vento models.
What you hear
Rain coming from above, helicopters passing over the room, and above all a ceiling that suddenly no longer feels like a lid. The sealed enclosure gives a dry, controlled attack, which matters more for effects than deep bass. From 50 Hz upward, the AR 1 covers exactly the range that Atmos objects need, the rest stays with the front, center, and subwoofer.
Who is the Canton Vento AR 1 for?
Plain talk: for home cinemas with an Atmos-capable AV receiver or AV pre-amp, free height channels, and as flat and hard a ceiling as possible. With very high, sloped, open, or heavily damped ceilings, the reflection effect fizzles out, and in-ceiling speakers are the more honest solution. And without an Atmos decoder in the electronics, the module simply stays silent. These are exactly the points we'd rather clarify beforehand than after.
Our verdict
The AR 1 is the pragmatic way up: cleanly built, tonally matched to the series, and set up in two minutes. It doesn't replace a genuine ceiling installation in a purpose-built cinema room, but in a normal living room it delivers most of the effect for a fraction of the effort. HD Zürisee plans your whole setup in Wädenswil, from the channel count to the receiver to whether your ceiling will even play along.

Frequently asked questions
How many Vento AR 1 do I need for an Atmos setup?
This listing includes two speakers, covering one height-channel pair, i.e. a configuration ending in 2, such as 5.1.2 or 7.1.2. For four height channels, i.e. 5.1.4 or 7.1.4, you need two pairs, positioned front and rear.
How does an upward-firing Atmos speaker work?
It fires upward at an angle toward the ceiling, which bounces the sound back down to your seat. Your hearing locates the source where the reflection comes from, i.e. above you. This requires a sufficiently flat, smooth, acoustically hard ceiling, roughly 2.3 to 3.5 meters high.
Do I need a specific amplifier for the Vento AR 1?
You need an AV receiver or AV pre-amp with a Dolby Atmos decoder and at least two free height channels. The AR 1 is a passive speaker with no built-in amplifier. On a classic stereo amplifier you can't drive the height layer at all, since the decoding is missing there.
Can I also hang the AR 1 on the wall?
Yes. The enclosure has an integrated wall mount, so it can also run as an on-wall speaker. That said, the classic use remains as an add-on on top of a front or rear speaker, since the dispersion is designed exactly for that. We're happy to help with positioning.
Why buy the Canton Vento AR 1 at HD Zürisee?
Because an Atmos setup lives or dies by planning: channel count, ceiling height, receiver, calibration. We've been building these systems for many years, we'll tell you honestly if add-on modules would be the wrong choice for your room, and on request we handle delivery, installation, and on-site calibration.
Goes well with: more modules for the height layer under Dolby Atmos speakers, the matching front, center, and rear models under home cinema speakers. A subwoofer provides the foundation, and the full brand range is in the CANTON overview.
