The Canton Vento 31 is a 2-way compact speaker from the Vento series 2026 that combines a 174 mm mid-woofer and a 25 mm tweeter in a curved cabinet finished in walnut.
The walnut version is the warmest variant of the series and the only one that brings a wood grain along. Technically nothing changes: behind the square Transmission Front Plate works the same Black Ceramic dome as in the series' larger models, and below it an ATB cone made of Aluminium Titanium Black. The bass-reflex port sits at the rear, built in Weilrod, Hesse.
Why the Canton Vento 31?
Because it brings together two things that rarely go together otherwise: a footprint that bothers no one, and a bass that reaches down to 27 Hz. The 31 is the larger of the two compact models and thus the variant where you don't have to constantly think about a subwoofer. In walnut it also stands well next to solid-wood furniture, where lacquered speakers tend to look like foreign bodies.
What you hear
Substance rather than effect. The 174 mm driver delivers a fundamental tone with weight without covering the midrange, and the tweeter draws finely while staying unobtrusive. Acoustic music benefits most clearly: guitar strings, cymbal hits, and breath sounds come through cleanly. At higher volumes the speaker compresses late, and the sense of space stays stable as long as it isn't stuck in a corner.
Who is the Canton Vento 31 for?
Plain talk: for small to medium-sized rooms, for classically furnished living rooms, and for anyone who wants to keep a pair of speakers for a long time. It's not suited to large, open floor plans with high level demands, or to home-cinema setups that need to manage deep bass without a subwoofer. And honestly: anyone who squeezes it flat into a bookshelf gives away a good part of what they paid for.
Our verdict
The walnut variant is the version for anyone who doesn't see hi-fi as a technical island in their living space. Sonically you get the most balanced compact of the series, visually a speaker that won't feel dated after five years. HD Zürisee's roots in the industry go back to 1993, and we'd rather put our experience in Wädenswil into an honest recommendation than a quick sale.

Frequently asked questions
Does the walnut version sound different from the lacquered models?
No. Driver complement, crossover, cabinet volume, and tuning are identical across all colour variants of the Vento 31, and so are the measured values. The difference lies purely in the finish. Which variant you choose is therefore purely a matter of décor, not a sonic decision.
How many speakers are included?
Two speakers, so a complete stereo pair in walnut. Included as well are the magnetically attached fabric covers and the instruction manual. Stand, cable, and amplifier are not included, but we can put together a set that matches the speaker and your room.
Can I run the Vento 31 on an AV receiver?
Yes, without any problem. With a nominal impedance of 4 to 8 ohms and 80 watts of rated power handling, it works with any properly sized receiver. When calibrating, make sure to configure it as a small speaker if a subwoofer is part of your setup.
How deep does the Canton Vento 31 go in the bass?
Canton states the frequency response as 27 to 40,000 Hz. The lower end is remarkable for a compact speaker and is enough for most kinds of music without extra help. For organ pedals, synth bass, and film effects below that limit, a subwoofer remains the more honest solution.
Why buy the Canton Vento 31 in walnut at HD Zürisee?

Goes well with
For free-standing placement, a speaker stand; as the drive, a unit from our amplifiers; and for movie nights, a subwoofer. Anyone thinking further ahead will find matching additions under home-cinema speakers, and the whole brand range in the CANTON overview.
