The Canton Vento 31 is a 2-way compact speaker from the Vento series 2026 with a 174 mm mid-woofer, here in the matte cabinet finish Sand.
Sand is the most understated variant of the series: a warm, desaturated tone that works better next to oak, linen, and light plaster than any high-gloss black. Behind it, the series technology stays unchanged: a 25 mm Black Ceramic dome behind the square Transmission Front Plate and a 174 mm cone with an ATB membrane, plus a curved cabinet with a rear bass-reflex port. Built in Weilrod.
Why the Canton Vento 31?
Because it elegantly sidesteps the size question. If you don't want or can't fit floorstanders, here's the larger of the two Vento compacts, with noticeably more bass extension than the 21 and the same tweeter technology as the series' flagship models. In Sand there's also an argument you rarely find in a hi-fi brochure but that counts every day at home: the box doesn't bother anyone who looks at it.
What you hear
A round, well-drawn sound image with a clear midrange and a bass that reaches unusually deep for this cabinet size. Voices gain body without becoming broad, and the highs stay pleasant even over long listening sessions. Placement matters: free-standing on a stand, clearance from the rear wall, slight toe-in. Then the soundstage stands stable between the speakers.
Who is the Canton Vento 31 for?
Plain talk: for small to medium-sized rooms, for living rooms with décor ambitions, and for anyone who takes stereo seriously without remodeling the room. It's not suited as the sole source in large, open spaces, or for home cinema that needs to deliver deep-bass punch without a subwoofer. Anyone who needs that reaches for a floorstander or adds an active subwoofer.
Our verdict
The Sand variant is our secret recommendation within the series: technically identical to the lacquered models, but visually the version least discussed in real living rooms. Sonically, the 31 delivers exactly what a good compact should: precision without thinness. At HD Zürisee in Wädenswil we've been advising on such questions for almost three decades, and we'll tell you honestly where this speaker's limits lie.

Frequently asked questions
How many speakers does this listing include?
Two. We offer the Vento 31 in pairs, so you get a complete stereo set. Both speakers share the same Sand cabinet finish and come with magnetically attached fabric covers and the instruction manual. Further series models can be added for multichannel setups.
Can the Vento 31 be run in bi-wiring?
No. The Vento 31 has a single-wiring terminal with gold-plated screw clamps suited to banana plugs. Canton doesn't provide for bi-wiring or bi-amping on this model. A good-quality single speaker cable with sufficient cross-section is the more sensible investment here anyway.
How big and how heavy is the Canton Vento 31?
It measures 22 centimetres wide, 40 tall, and 35 deep, and weighs 10 kilograms per speaker. That's substantial for a compact and a good sign: a heavy, well-damped cabinet resonates less and keeps the bass clean.
Is the Sand finish the same as on the Reference models?
Canton offers Sand as its own cabinet colour for the Vento series 2026, alongside Black, White, and Walnut. A matte, warm tone that absorbs reflections rather than mirroring them. Whether the shade matches your furniture exactly is something we're happy to clarify beforehand by phone or email.
Why buy the Canton Vento 31 in Sand at HD Zürisee?
Because colour, room, and amplifier should be decided together, not one after another. We know the Canton series in detail, deliver the pair with stands and cable to the Lake Zurich area, and set it up at your place on request. Call or write to us before you order.
Goes well with
A matching speaker stand brings the 31 to ear height, an amplifier with headroom provides the necessary control. Add speaker cable with a decent cross-section, and for movie nights a subwoofer. The rest of the brand's range is in the CANTON overview.
