The Canton Smart Sub 8 is a compact active wireless subwoofer with a 219 mm down-firing woofer in a sealed enclosure, which automatically pairs with your Canton Smart devices via its own 5.8 GHz radio link.

Why the Canton Smart Sub 8?

The Sub 8 solves a problem many only notice once it's gone: soundbars and compact speakers simply have too little cone area for the lower octave. Here, a 219 mm driver made of cellulose and graphite fires downward in a sealed enclosure – the design that delivers less level per watt, but stays precise in return. 200 watts of music power and SC technology keep the driver in check even during movie nights. The wireless connection runs on 5.8 GHz, cleanly separated from the usual 2.4 GHz traffic, and bridges up to ten meters. You set the crossover frequency between 50 and 200 Hz via your Canton Smart device – Smart Soundbar, Smart Sounddeck, Smart Soundbox or a Smart floorstanding or compact speaker.

Who is the Canton Smart Sub 8 suitable for?

Plain talk: The Smart Sub 8 is made for small to medium rooms and for people who want to give their Canton Smart system a foundation without rearranging half the room. At 27 centimeters on each side and 8.5 kilos, it fits almost anywhere. If, on the other hand, you're filling a large, open living room and want home cinema with real punch, you'll hit its limits – then there's no way around the Smart Sub 12. And by the way: without a Canton Smart device or an amplifier with a subwoofer output, it stays silent. A source device is essential.

Our verdict

Little effort, big effect: the Smart Sub 8 is the least complicated way to round out a Canton Smart setup at the bottom end – plug in, pair, done. At HD Zürisee in Wädenswil we still recommend investing the first few minutes in placement rather than volume. A sub you consciously notice is usually standing in the wrong spot.
