The Canton Smart Libero is an active wireless speaker that wirelessly extends an existing Canton Smart System with surround, height or front channels.

Two compact enclosures, one power outlet per unit, not a single signal cable: in white, the Libero all but disappears in front of light walls and ceilings instead of sitting there as a black block in your field of view. It's registered directly at the master device, and from then on it joins in over radio – on a shelf, on a wall bracket, or overhead.

Why the Smart Libero?

Because the rest of the Canton Smart family had long played wirelessly, but a suitably small rear speaker was missing. The Libero closes that gap: 2-way, sealed enclosure, 25 mm fabric dome and 78 mm cellulose-graphite driver, 70 watts of system power per unit. Anyone who's been pressing a large soundbox into service as surround can finally retire it.

What you get

Effects that sit exactly where the film places them – behind you, not smeared somewhere across the room. Two pairs give a rounded surround image; mounted on wall or ceiling, they deliver the Dolby Atmos layer via the master device. Anyone wanting more foundation adds a Canton Smart Sub 8 or Sub 12 – also wireless, also via the same master device. The Libero itself just needs a power outlet and enabling in the speaker configuration, then the master device distributes the channels automatically.

Who is the Smart Libero suited to?

Honestly: only people who are already at home in the Canton Smart System, or who are just building one. Without a Smart Soundbar 9 or 10, Smart Sounddeck 100, Smart Connect 5.1 or Smart Amp 5.1, the Libero stays a pretty, silent object. As a portable Bluetooth speaker, it's no good. As an unobtrusive rear or height channel in a bright living room, though, it's hard to beat. We'll work out together beforehand whether it makes sense in your case.

Our verdict

An extension speaker that knows its job and claims nothing else. The white version is the choice for bright rooms where technology likes to stay invisible – let's be honest, that's exactly why people buy wireless surrounds.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Canton Smart Libero play without a Canton Smart hub?

No. The Libero is built as an extension and gets its signal over radio from a master device: Smart Soundbar 9 or 10, Smart Sounddeck 100, Smart Connect 5.1 or Smart Amp 5.1. There's no Bluetooth or cable input of its own for music.

How do you pair the Smart Libero with the hub?

On the master device, you open the speaker configuration, set the position and connection type, then plug in the unit's power cable – the radio link is established automatically. Signal cables are eliminated entirely, but every unit needs a power outlet. A Smart Remote is available separately as an accessory.

Does the white Smart Libero also fit on the ceiling?

Yes. 700 grams of weight and an enclosure of 11 × 15 × 8 centimetres make ceiling and wall mounting straightforward, as well as space on a shelf. The preparation for wall mounting is there from the factory; the matching Libero wall bracket is a separate accessory. In front of bright walls, the white version is barely noticeable.

Do I get one Smart Libero unit or two?

Two. Canton sells the Smart Libero as a pair, suited to the left and right side at the back or above. Anyone wanting to add four channels wirelessly takes two pairs. Included are two power cables 1.5 metres long and the quick guide.

Why buy the Canton Smart Libero from HD Zürisee?

Because the units alone don't add up to surround yet: hub, channel assignment and placement decide that. We at HD Zürisee in Wädenswil know the Canton Smart family from everyday practice, set up your system with you, and come by for the installation too. Just get in touch.
