The Canton Smart Libero Set 4 is a wireless 4.0 surround set made up of the Smart Connect 5.1 S2 as the hub and four active Smart Libero speakers.

In white, the set is the discreet option: four small cabinets that nearly disappear against light walls, plus a 24.5 cm wide hub under the TV. The TV and up to three further sources come in via HDMI, sound goes out by radio – front left and right, and rear left and right.

Why the Smart Libero Set 4?

Because the most annoying part of a home cinema simply never arises here: the cables to the rear channels. Instead of opening up skirting boards, you place two speakers behind the sofa and assign their position at the hub. Wall mounting also works if you want the floor to stay clear. This system doesn't ask for any more configuration than that.

What the set brings to everyday life

Four active speakers, each with a 25 mm fabric tweeter, a 78 mm cellulose-graphite driver and 70 watts of system power, controlled by a hub that decodes Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. Series get atmosphere behind the seating position, concert recordings get a stage that reaches beyond the width of the TV. Music keeps running on the same system, via AirPlay 2, Chromecast built-in, Spotify Connect or Bluetooth – without you having to plug in anything different.

Who is the Set 4 for?

Honestly, for people who value all-round sound more than the last bit of deep bass – at least for now. A subwoofer isn't included, and neither are height channels; both can be added wirelessly later. And the Smart Libero only work within the Canton Smart ecosystem, not on a third-party amplifier. Hand on heart: if you don't want to tear up your living room, there's hardly a more relaxed way into surround.

Our verdict

A home cinema you set up rather than install. The white finish is the choice for bright rooms where four black boxes would stand out – and expanding to 5.1 or adding height channels remains an option at any time.

Frequently asked questions

Which components are inside the Smart Libero Set 4?

Four Smart Libero wireless speakers, a Smart Connect 5.1 S2 as the hub, and a Canton Smart Remote Control. Two Libero take the front channels, two the rear surround channels. Together that's a wireless 4.0 system; a subwoofer isn't included, but can be added wirelessly at any time.

Does the bass get too thin without a subwoofer?

The four Libero reach down to 40 Hz, which carries a normal living room surprisingly far. For explosions you feel in your stomach, though, there's no way around the Canton Smart Sub – that turns the 4.0 into a 5.1. We'll help you judge that for your room.

Does the set manage without an AV receiver?

Yes. The Smart Connect 5.1 S2 is both a wireless AV preamplifier and a streaming hub: three HDMI inputs, one output with eARC, plus optical, coaxial and analogue. Because each Smart Libero brings its own power amp, it only needs a power outlet.

How does the sound reach the rear speakers?

By radio. You assign each speaker its position in the hub's speaker configuration, and the connection then forms automatically as soon as the power cable is plugged in. There's no audio cable between hub and speakers – that saves you skirting boards and cable channels.

Can the Set 4 be expanded with height channels?

Yes. The hub decodes Dolby Atmos and manages up to eight wireless Smart speakers. Two additional Smart Libero on the wall or ceiling add the height layer, a Smart Sub the foundation. The expansion can happen in stages.

Why buy the Canton Smart Libero Set 4 from HD Zürisee?

Because four speakers in a box don't yet make a home cinema: positions, channel assignment and levels decide the result. Our team in Wädenswil sets the system up with you, comes by for installation, and tells you honestly what you still need – and what you don't.
