The Canton Puro 90 is a passive 2½-way floorstanding speaker that hides five aluminium drivers in a column just 14 centimetres wide.
105 centimetres tall, 10 centimetres deep, no visible technology: in black silk matt, the Puro 90 recedes visually instead of dominating the room. The bass reflex port faces forward in the lower part of the enclosure, and the foot is die-cast aluminium. If you're looking for a speaker that's the first thing you notice on entering the room, you're in the wrong place – and that's exactly the point.
Why the Puro 90?
Because it doesn't even open the old "design or sound" argument. Canton has made the drivers disappear completely behind the front; all that's visible is a calm column. Behind it works a fully grown 2½-way system with a 25 mm aluminium tweeter, two 106 mm midrange drivers and two 106 mm woofers. This isn't a decorative object with token drivers, but a genuine floorstanding speaker – it just behaves better than most.
What you hear
A mature stereo image with depth down to 40 Hz, cleanly drawn voices, and treble that doesn't grate even after the third hour. 87.5 dB sensitivity and 4–8 ohm impedance make the Puro 90 uncomplicated: a solid integrated amplifier is enough, it doesn't need a monster power amp. You locate instruments in the room, not speakers on the wall.
Who is the Puro 90 suited to?
For living rooms where the system should live alongside you, instead of taking over the room. Straight talk: anyone chasing the last word in deep-bass punch in a large, open loft is better served by a wider box or an additional subwoofer. 106 mm drivers in a 14 cm column are physically honest – they deliver substance, but no cinema-style slam.
Our verdict
One of the few columns you can set up without first negotiating with the interior decor. Black silk matt is the most restrained of the five finishes: unobtrusive, high-quality, and no fingerprint magnet the way high gloss is. Passive, undemanding to drive, built for everyday use.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Canton Puro 90 active or passive?
The Puro 90 is a passive speaker. It has no built-in power amp and needs an amplifier or receiver in front of it. Network, streaming or Bluetooth functions aren't on board – the music source sits in the amplifier or a separate streamer.
Which amplifier suits the Puro 90?
A stable stereo integrated amplifier with around 60 to 150 watts at 4 ohms is entirely sufficient. At 87.5 dB sensitivity and 90 watts nominal power handling, the Puro 90 gets loud enough with moderate power alone. We're happy to work out which combination fits your room over the phone.
Is the Puro 90 supplied individually or as a pair?
With us, you get the stereo pair, meaning two columns for left and right. Canton lists the Puro 90 in its catalogue as a single unit. If you need a third column to complete a multi-channel setup, just drop us a line – that can be arranged.
Does the Puro 90 need a subwoofer?
Not for stereo in a living room. Down to 40 Hz, it plays fuller than its slim shape suggests. In a home cinema or very large rooms, a subwoofer usefully adds to the foundation. Whether that's worthwhile for you, we'll tell you honestly.
Why buy the Canton Puro 90 in black from HD Zürisee?
Because the speaker has to fit the room, not the spec sheet. At HD Zürisee in Wädenswil, an experienced team matches speakers, amplifier and source to each other – plus our own technician for delivery, setup and service. Call or write to us.
