The Canton Puro 90 is a passive 2½-way floorstanding speaker whose five aluminium drivers sit entirely behind a smooth column front.
Sand is the quietest colour in the Puro range – a warm, sandy tone that doesn't stick out as a foreign body next to oak, linen and light plaster. The dimensions help: 14 centimetres wide, 10 centimetres deep, 105 centimetres tall. At the bottom sits a die-cast aluminium foot, in front of it the forward-facing bass reflex port.
Why the Puro 90?
Because it proves that a living-room-friendly speaker doesn't have to be an acoustic compromise. A 25 mm aluminium tweeter, two 106 mm midrange drivers and two 106 mm woofers work together as a 2½-way system – finely tuned rather than spectacularly pictured. Canton deliberately does without visible surrounds, chrome rings and screw heads.
What you hear
A composed, well-organised reproduction: voices sit central and vivid, strings stay silky, the bass reaches down to 40 Hz and stays dry rather than woolly. The Puro 90 doesn't push itself forward – it builds a stage and then steps aside. That's exactly what makes it so pleasant over the long run.
Who is the Puro 90 suited to?
For anyone who wants a floorstanding speaker but not a monolith in the living room. Straight talk: anyone mainly running loud action films in a large basement cinema should plan for more cone area or a subwoofer – this slim form wasn't built for that. For music in a living space and moderately sized home cinemas, it fits perfectly.
Our verdict
Sand is the finish for people who want neither black nor white and still don't want to risk anything. A calm, warm tone – and underneath, a speaker that delivers acoustically much more than its understated appearance announces.

Frequently asked questions
Does the Puro 90 need its own amplifier?
Yes. The Puro 90 is built passively and has no built-in power amp. It needs a stereo integrated amplifier, streaming amplifier or AV receiver. Network and Bluetooth functions in this case always come from the device in front, never from the speaker.
How large can the room be for the Puro 90?
In rooms of about 15 to 35 square metres, the Puro 90 feels most at home. Beyond that, it stays sonically clean but loses deep-bass authority. Then a subwoofer is worthwhile – or a bigger design. We're happy to work that out with you.
Is the sand finish sensitive?
The surface is matt and therefore noticeably less prone to fingerprints than high gloss. Dust stands out less on light tones than on black. A dry microfibre cloth is entirely sufficient for care, no cleaning agents are needed.
What cable do I need for the Puro 90?
A normal speaker cable with a 2.5 to 4 square millimetre cross-section is enough for typical cable runs in a living space. The Easy-Link terminal accepts banana plugs and bare wire. We're happy to put together ready-made lengths for you on request.
Why buy the Canton Puro 90 in sand from HD Zürisee?
Because for nearly three decades we've seen which speaker-amplifier combinations actually deliver on their promise in everyday use. HD Zürisee in Wädenswil advises you on room, placement and cabling, and delivers and installs on site if you like. One call is enough.
