The Canton Puro 90 is a passive 2½-way floorstanding speaker that fits five aluminium drivers into a slim column that seems to have no drivers at all.

Rosé is the boldest of the five finishes – a restrained, warm pink tone that, in the right room, reads as a piece of furnishing rather than hi-fi technology. The column measures 14 × 105 × 10 centimetres, stands on a die-cast aluminium foot, and breathes through a forward-facing bass reflex port in the lower part of the enclosure.

Why the Puro 90?

Because colour here isn't a marketing gimmick, but a genuine option. Anyone who's ever tried to fit a black floorstanding box into a bright, homely room knows the problem. Acoustically, the finish changes nothing: a 25 mm aluminium tweeter, two 106 mm midrange drivers, two 106 mm woofers, cleanly crossed over at 400 and 3,300 Hertz.

What you hear

Open, airy treble, clearly outlined voices and bass that reaches down to 40 Hz without booming. The narrow baffle pays off in a precise image – instruments get a fixed place between the columns. At 87.5 dB sensitivity, it doesn't need a powerhouse amplifier for that.

Who is the Puro 90 suited to?

For living spaces with character, where technology isn't allowed to dominate. Honestly: Rosé is a decision you should make because you want it – not as a compromise. Anyone who might want to redecorate neutrally in five years is more flexible with sand, white or walnut. And anyone chasing deep bass for large cinema rooms is planning for a subwoofer anyway.

Our verdict

A floorstanding speaker that dares to show colour, and is still fully serious acoustically. Rare enough – most manufacturers stop at black and white when it comes to colour.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Puro 90 an active speaker?

No, it's passive. In this concept, power amp, network and Bluetooth sit in the device in front. So you combine the Puro 90 with an integrated amplifier, streaming amplifier or AV receiver – and stay completely free for later upgrades.

Is the Puro 90 also available in other colours?

Yes, Canton offers five finishes: black silk matt, white silk matt, sand, Rosé and walnut. We carry all of them in the shop. Technically they're identical, only the surface of the column differs.

How much space does a Puro 90 pair need?

Very little: each column takes up a footprint of 14 × 10 centimetres. That means the Puro 90 also fits where a classic floorstanding box would be too bulky. A bit of distance from the rear wall and a slight toe-in towards the listening position noticeably improve the result.

Can I combine the Puro 90 with a subwoofer?

Yes, that works well. In stereo use it's rarely necessary, but in a home cinema or large rooms it's worthwhile. What matters is a cleanly set crossover frequency, so the subwoofer and columns don't get in each other's way. We help you with that.

Why buy the Canton Puro 90 in Rosé from HD Zürisee?

Because a colour decision deserves advice and shouldn't be a shot in the dark. The HD Zürisee team in Wädenswil knows the finishes from practical experience, matches amplifier and cable, and takes care of delivery and setup with our own technician.
