The Canton InCeiling P8 is a passive ceiling speaker from the premium P Series with a 210 mm woofer – the largest and most powerful model in the range.
A large cone area, 88.5 dB sensitivity and a frequency range that starts as low as 42 Hz: the P8 is the ceiling speaker for rooms where a 13 cm chassis simply doesn't move enough air. That it still disappears behind a paintable magnetic grille is the real trick.
Why the InCeiling P8?
Because open-plan kitchen-living rooms, loft areas and long rooms need cone area, not good intentions. With 88.5 dB sensitivity and 90 watts of nominal power handling, the P8 has reserves where smaller ceiling speakers are already compressing. The angle-adjustable tweeter can be aimed at the seating area – handy when the ceiling cutout doesn't sit exactly where people end up sitting. Mounting is via clamp brackets: saw the cutout, insert the speaker, tighten.
What you hear
Substance. The 210 mm driver delivers fundamental tone and upper bass you wouldn't expect from a ceiling speaker, and the crossover at 3,000 Hz keeps voices coherent. Music stays music instead of degrading into background noise with treble. Honestly – this is exactly where a premium range parts ways with a hardware-store ceiling speaker.
Who is the InCeiling P8 suited for?
For large, open living areas, for demanding multiroom zones, and for ceiling builds that allow for 98 mm of installation depth and a 244 mm cutout. Straight talk: if you want a focused stereo stage at the sweet spot, buy floorstanding speakers instead – a ceiling speaker fires downward and doesn't image a stage in front of you. And in shallow suspended ceilings, just under 10 cm of build depth simply gets tight.
Our verdict
The flagship of the P Series, and the right choice when ceiling sound is meant seriously. The P8 demands more ceiling area and more installation depth than its smaller siblings – and pays both back in level and fundamental tone. At HD Zürisee in Wädenswil we plan quantity and position in advance so that good speakers also turn into a good result.

Frequently asked questions
What cutout and installation depth does the InCeiling P8 need?
The cutout measures 244 mm in diameter, the installation depth is 98 mm, and the visible outer edge covers 272 mm. It installs in ceilings up to 40 mm thick. Before sawing, check the cavity above the ceiling for joists, cables and ventilation ducts. Mauri, our technician, takes care of this anyway during an on-site installation.
Does the P8 need a back chamber or damping?
Not mandatory – the ceiling cavity serves as the volume. A back enclosure is still worthwhile if no sound should pass through to the room above or if the cavity is very small. Under fire-safety requirements, a sealed back chamber is mandatory anyway. We clarify this together before planning.
Can the P8 go in the bathroom or on a covered terrace?
No. The P8 is built for dry interior spaces; Canton doesn't state a moisture-room rating for it. For bathrooms, wellness areas, conservatories or covered terraces, use the splash-protected InCeiling P6 Outdoor with a stainless-steel grille instead. We'll help you work out which model belongs in which zone.
Why buy the Canton InCeiling P8 from HD Zürisee?
Because ceiling sound is mostly planning: quantity, position, amplifier load, cabling. We've been supporting installations like this since the nineties and tell you honestly when a different model fits better. Mauri handles the on-site installation on request. Call or write to us.
Goes well with
You'll find the right power among the amplifiers, add a subwoofer for home-cinema depth, and the connection comes from the speaker cables. More models from the brand are in the Canton overview.
