The Canton InCeiling 865 DT is a ceiling speaker with two tweeters that reproduces both stereo channels from a single install location.

DT stands for the dual-tweeter design. Two 25 mm aluminium domes share a single 165 mm woofer, and you connect the left and right channels to the same fixture. One cutout, two channels – exactly where there's simply no room for two speakers.

Why the InCeiling 865 DT?

Because there are rooms where two install locations just don't make sense: the narrow guest toilet, the hallway, the alcove above the bed, the bathroom with a partially dropped ceiling. Instead of mono from a single point, you get a sound image with width there. The amplifier still sees two separate 8-ohm circuits, one per channel – electrically, that's a completely normal stereo pair, just in one basket.

What you hear

An open, pleasantly wide sound image from a single opening. The two tweeters can be angled and fire slightly apart, which makes music sound noticeably livelier than from an ordinary mono ceiling speaker. The shared 165 mm woofer delivers foundation down to 45 Hz – more than enough for small rooms.

Who is the InCeiling 865 DT suited for?

For small, narrow or awkwardly shaped rooms with exactly one sensible install location. Straight talk: the DT doesn't replace a genuine stereo stage – both channels physically sit in the same enclosure, so the baseline width naturally stays limited. As soon as two install locations are possible, two individual InCeiling 865s clearly perform better. We'd rather tell you that upfront than afterwards.

Our verdict

The clever solution when only one hole in the ceiling is allowed. The 865 DT turns a structural constraint into something you can actually enjoy listening to, and for its design it sounds surprisingly spacious. For bathrooms, hallways and guest rooms it's often the only sensible answer – and a genuinely good one.

Frequently asked questions

What does DT stand for in the InCeiling 865 DT?

DT stands for the dual-tweeter design. The speaker has two 25 mm tweeters and reproduces both stereo channels through a shared 165 mm woofer. That gives you stereo from one install location where otherwise only mono would be possible. It's sold as a single unit, not as a pair.

How do I connect the 865 DT to the amplifier?

You connect the left and right channels to the speaker's two separate terminal pairs. Each channel sees 8 ohms, exactly the usual load. A single stereo amplifier is enough, a second speaker isn't needed. Four-conductor speaker cable makes the wiring noticeably easier.

How big is the ceiling cutout and how deep does it build?

The cutout measures 204 mm in diameter, the installation depth is 90 mm, and the visible outer diameter is 245 mm. It's approved for ceilings up to 40 mm thick. A template is included. In the ceiling it works on the free-air principle, so an enclosure isn't required.

Is the 865 DT suitable for the bathroom?

Yes, and thanks to stereo from one install location it's actually especially useful there. Canton approves its ceiling and wall speakers for rooms with higher humidity, but advises against mounting directly above a shower or tub. Mauri, our technician, works out the right spot and ceiling build with you on site.

Why buy the Canton InCeiling 865 DT from HD Zürisee?
