The Canton Atelier InWall 5 is a passive 2-way in-wall speaker that lets music and film sound disappear flush into the wall.

All that stays visible is the frameless fabric cover in white silk matt; the rest sits completely in the wall at just 7.2 cm installation depth. Made for anyone who wants good sound without a box standing in the room – living room, kitchen, hallway, surround extension.

Why the Atelier InWall 5?

Because the technology here hasn't simply been flattened out. A 128 mm aluminium-titanium woofer/midrange driver works against a passive radiator, while the 25 mm aluminium tweeter with wave guide spreads the treble evenly across the room instead of onto just one seat. Plus its own enclosure: the InWall 5 doesn't depend on the wall supplying its bass volume. That makes planning more honest – you get the sound stated on the spec sheet, not whatever your wall construction happens to allow.

What you hear

A tidy, unobtrusive sound with clearly intelligible voices and fine, never harsh treble. The bass reaches down to 40 Hz, further than you'd expect from an 8.8 cm flat enclosure – enough for ambience, jazz, singer-songwriter material and most film sound. As a stereo pair in a living space, the music stays where it belongs: in the room, not stuck to the wall.

Who is the Atelier InWall 5 suited to?

For anyone whose interior design gets a say: open-plan living spaces, rented flats with renovation approval, remodels where the cabling is already in the wall anyway. Also a clean solution as a surround channel to a larger front system. Straight talk: anyone after home-cinema punch in the gut, or wanting to fill a 40-square-metre room with these alone, needs a subwoofer alongside them – or a larger model straight away. And anyone who isn't allowed or doesn't want to cut into the wall is better served by a bookshelf speaker. We'd rather tell you that up front than afterwards.

Our verdict

The sensible all-rounder among in-wall speakers: unobtrusive in looks, balanced in sound, uncomplicated to install. Anyone who wants the box out of the room without throwing away the sound along with it lands exactly right here.

Frequently asked questions

What wall cut-out and installation depth does the Atelier InWall 5 need?

The cut-out measures 18.4 × 53.4 cm, the installation depth is 7.2 cm. In stud walls you need to watch the spacing between studs; in solid walls, a recess is chased out. Mauri, our technician, measures this on site, checks the wall construction and handles the installation.

Does the InWall 5 need a rear enclosure in the wall?

No. The InWall 5 comes with its own enclosure with a passive radiator and doesn't depend on the wall's volume. So you don't need an additional rear chamber. What's worthwhile regardless: insulating the cavity wall so less sound travels into the room next door.

Can I install the InWall 5 in a bathroom or kitchen?

In the kitchen, yes; in the bathroom, only outside the splash zone. Canton doesn't state any wet-room certification for the Atelier InWall 5 – the chassis is built for normal living spaces. For a shower, wellness area or outdoor area, we'll plan in a solution explicitly rated for wet rooms.

Is a pair of InWall 5 enough without a subwoofer?

For music in small to medium living spaces, yes – a 40 Hz lower cut-off is decent for an in-wall speaker. For home cinema with punch in the gut, or for large, open rooms, you add a subwoofer. Two pieces make a stereo pair; it's sold by the piece.

Why buy the Canton Atelier InWall 5 from HD Zürisee?

Because an in-wall speaker can't be repositioned once you've drilled. We go through position, cut-out and cabling with you beforehand, and our technician Mauri handles the on-site installation. Call or message us, and we'll look at your room together.

Goes well with

You'll find the matching center and further wall solutions under Center Speakers and Wall Speakers. For extra depth, a look at the Subwoofers is worthwhile, and for complete film sound, the Home Cinema Speakers. The necessary speaker cable is best fitted at the same time, while the wall is still open. The brand's full range is in the Canton world.
