The Canton Atelier InWall 5 is a passive 2-way in-wall speaker that, in black silk matt, blends almost invisibly into dark walls and recesses.

The frameless fabric cover sits flush with the wall surface, with the entire enclosure disappearing behind it at 7.2 cm installation depth. The black finish is the top choice for home cinema rooms, dark accent walls and anything that should visually recede.

Why the Atelier InWall 5 in black?

Because black simply disappears in a darkened room – and because behind it sits the same serious engineering found in every Atelier model. A 128 mm aluminium-titanium woofer/midrange driver couples to a passive radiator, topped by a 25 mm aluminium tweeter with wave guide that spreads the treble broadly across the room instead of concentrating it on a single armchair. 70 watts nominal and 140 watts music power handling are enough for noticeably more level than is diplomatically advisable in a rented flat.

What you hear

Voices come across clear and close, treble stays fine rather than sharp, and the bass goes down to 40 Hz – respectable for an enclosure only 8.8 cm deep. Because the chassis brings its own volume, the InWall 5 sounds the same in a brick wall as in drywall. That predictability is worth more during installation than any extra decibel.

Who is the Atelier InWall 5 suited to?

For home cinema setups where the front should stay invisible, for surround channels on the side wall, and for living spaces where stereo is wanted but no speaker is allowed. Honestly: if you're after deep bass you can feel in the sofa, add a subwoofer – no in-wall speaker changes that. And anyone who only rents and isn't allowed to cut into the wall saves themselves a lot of hassle and is better off looking at bookshelf speakers.

Our verdict

A thoroughly solid in-wall speaker without any show: cleanly tuned, robust, easy to install, and in black, ultimately invisible. If the architecture should win without the sound losing out, this is the pragmatic answer.

Frequently asked questions

How big does the wall cut-out for the Atelier InWall 5 need to be?

18.4 × 53.4 cm at 7.2 cm installation depth. In drywall, the stud spacing determines whether the position works; in concrete or brick, a recess needs to be chased out. Our technician Mauri looks at the wall construction on site and handles the installation.

Does an enclosure need to sit behind the InWall 5?

Not necessarily. The chassis sits in its own enclosure with a passive radiator and doesn't need the wall's volume. An insulated cavity wall is still worthwhile regardless, especially if a bedroom or neighbouring room lies behind it – it saves discussions later.

Is the black InWall 5 rated for wet rooms?

No. Canton doesn't state a wet-room or IP rating for the Atelier InWall series. Installation is unproblematic in the kitchen and hallway; in the bathroom, only well away from the shower and tub. For genuine wet areas, we'll find you a model built specifically for that.

Can I run the InWall 5 as a surround speaker?

Yes, that's one of its strongest roles. With 89 dB sensitivity and 4 to 8 ohms, it works with any standard AV receiver. As a rear or side channel to larger front speakers, it delivers clean effects without standing out visually.

Why buy the Canton Atelier InWall 5 in black from HD Zürisee?

Because with an in-wall speaker, planning decides more than the spec sheet. We clarify wall construction, cable routing and amplifier beforehand, and Mauri installs on site. Message us by email or WhatsApp, and we'll discuss your project at your own pace.
