The Canton Atelier InWall 5 C is a passive 2-way center in-wall speaker for horizontal installation into the wall.

In black silk matt, it's made for darkened media rooms: the cover plate and fabric cover sit flush with the wall, and with the lights off, there's simply nothing more to see of it. Technically, it's the horizontally installed twin of the Atelier InWall 5.

Why the Atelier InWall 5 C?

Because there's no more room for a center below a wall-flush mounted TV – and because going without a center breaks exactly the thing most people build a home cinema for in the first place: speech intelligibility. The InWall 5 C sits entirely in the wall and brings a 128 mm aluminium-titanium woofer/midrange driver, a 25 mm aluminium tweeter with wave guide and a passive radiator. 70 watts nominal and 140 watts music power handling are generously sized for a dialogue channel.

What you hear

Dialogue that comes from the picture, not from the wall beside it. Voices stay intelligible even at low volume, which is an argument in itself on late movie nights with thin walls. Because the center uses the same drivers as the front speakers of the same series, effects move seamlessly across the front stage with no audible stumble at the handover.

Who is the Atelier InWall 5 C suited to?

For planned media rooms and living-room home cinemas where the TV hangs on the wall and the technology should disappear. As a center to front speakers from the Atelier InWall family, it's the logical addition. Honestly: if your front speakers are from a different brand or a different class, the result will be uneven – in that case, plan the whole front from a single line instead. And anyone who likes to reposition the TV should think twice about whether a fixed wall cut-out is the right idea.

Our verdict

An unobtrusive, properly tuned center for built-in home cinemas. Not an effects gadget, but the component that makes sure that at the end of the film, nobody has to ask what was just said.

Frequently asked questions

How big is the wall cut-out for the Atelier InWall 5 C?

Installed horizontally, 53.4 × 18.4 cm, installation depth 7.2 cm. Usually it's not the size that's critical but the position: the center should sit as close as possible to the centre of the picture, while the TV mount and stud spacing mustn't get in the way. Mauri sorts this out on site.

Install the center above or below the TV?

Usually below, as close as possible to the centre of the picture and on the listening axis to the seating position. Above also works if there's no room below, but it looks slightly elevated. We settle the final height together based on your seat height.

Does a rear chamber need to be built behind the center?

Not necessary. The InWall 5 C works with its own enclosure and passive radiator; the wall's volume plays no acoustic role. An insulated cavity wall only helps against sound transmission into the room next door. In solid or concrete walls, a recess of matching depth is chased out.

Is the InWall 5 C suitable for wet rooms?

No, Canton doesn't state a wet-room rating for the Atelier InWall series. It's built for living and media rooms, not for bathrooms, wellness areas or outdoor use. If your project includes such a room, we'll plan in a model explicitly rated for it there.

Why buy the Canton Atelier InWall 5 C in black from HD Zürisee?

Because with a built-in home cinema, the order matters: plan first, then cut. We settle positions, cut-outs and cable routing with you, choose the matching receiver, and Mauri installs and calibrates afterwards. One call is enough to get started.

Goes well with

You'll find more center speakers under Center Speakers, the matching front speakers under Wall Speakers. A Subwoofer supplies the foundation, and you'll find the rest of the chain under Home Cinema and Home Cinema Speakers. Plan in speaker cable at the same time, while the wall is still open. The brand's complete range is in the Canton world.
