The Blok Stax 2G Base Module is the bottom level of the modular Stax 2G rack system – the base with the height-adjustable feet that every other level is placed on.

In this finish, black-stained ash meets natural walnut: a warm material mix that carries dark electronics without looking like a piece of technical furniture itself. The series is developed and built in the UK, by Blok – the furniture brand of the Monitor Audio Group.

Why the Stax 2G Base Module?

Because a rack grows from the bottom up. The Base brings what a foundation needs: four height-adjustable feet, fitted with spikes for carpet or hard-floor pads for parquet, laminate, and stone. That keeps the structure stable even on an old building's floor that's seen better centuries. On top, you stack the build-up modules – 120, 170, and 220 mm for electronics, the LP module for records – in the order and heights that suit your devices. Blok recommends the system up to a total height of 1100 mm.

What you get

A load-bearing, decoupled level: 13 mm plywood on solid side supports, with silicone isolation pads in between whose Shore hardness the acoustic engineers at the Monitor Audio Group defined. The supports are hollow and can be filled with inert material through removable rubber plugs – around 0.7 litres per support. If you've ever weighted a rack with sand, you know the effect: more mass, less resonance, minimal effort. The level carries 40 kg, which covers practically every integrated amplifier.

Who is the Base Module suitable for?

For anyone who wants to configure their own rack instead of taking a ready-made combination: you decide how many levels there'll be and how tall each one is. Straight talk: the Base alone isn't a rack yet. Without build-up modules, it's a flat platform for a single device – nicely made, but still just a plinth. If you need three or four levels from the start and don't want any custom heights, you'll get there faster with the ready-made 3-Shelf or 4-Shelf collections.

Our verdict

The Base Module isn't a part you get excited about – it's the part that makes everything else possible. Cleanly made, understated in appearance, and the combination of black ash and walnut ages noticeably more gracefully than any high-gloss surface. If you're unsure which module heights suit your devices: that's exactly what we're here for at HD Zürisee in Wädenswil – we'll work through the configuration with you before you order.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Base Module alone enough as a HiFi rack?

As a flat platform for a single device, yes; as a rack, no. The Base supplies the feet and the bottom level; the actual rack height only comes about once you add one or more build-up modules on top. That's exactly the point of the system: you decide the number and height of the levels yourself.

Which modules fit the Stax 2G Base Module?

All build-up modules in the Stax 2G series: 120, 170, and 220 mm for electronics, plus the LP module for records. You stack them in any order until you reach the recommended total height of 1100 mm. It makes sense to place the tallest module where your largest device stands.

Which feet suit which floor?

Both variants are included. The 22 mm spikes pierce carpet and couple to the subfloor; the 14 mm hard-floor pads protect parquet, laminate, and stone. All four feet are height-adjustable with the included tool, so the rack stands calmly even on an uneven floor.

How much weight does a level carry?

Blok states 40 kg per level – that covers practically every integrated amplifier, turntable, or CD player. What usually matters more is the surface: 480 × 379 mm is usable between the side supports. Measure your deepest device before deciding on a configuration.
