The AudioQuest Vodka 48 eARC Priority is an HDMI cable for the return path from the TV to the amplifier, where specifically the audio conductor pair has been upgraded instead of the picture conductors. It's not a higher price stage of the Vodka 48, but a distinct construction for a distinct task.

Why the Vodka 48 eARC Priority?

In many modern systems, the sound runs backwards: the TV plays apps, tuners, and connected sources and sends the sound back to the soundbar or AV receiver via eARC. Only a single conductor pair works on this path – precisely the one a normal HDMI cable pays the least attention to. Here, the order is reversed: the eARC conductors carry 10% silver, the ground-reference conductors 5%, while the four AV data pairs stay at solid Forest level with 0.5% silver. On top of that comes Noise-Dissipation Level 3. So you're paying for the part your setup actually uses.

What you get

A passive HDMI cable in 0.6, 1, 1.5, 2, or 3 metres – the typical distances between the TV and the amplifier rack. The full 48 Gbit/s for 8K and 4K/120 are still there: eARC prioritisation costs you no picture capability, it only shifts where the material effort sits.

Who is this cable suitable for – and who isn't it for?

To be blunt: if your AV receiver switches all the sources and the TV only displays the picture, this construction brings you little – then you'd better put the same money into the feed lines to the receiver, i.e. into a normal Vodka 48. But as soon as the TV is the hub – streaming apps, TV tuner, a console connected directly to the TV – and the sound goes back via eARC, every bit of effort here sits in exactly the right place.

Our verdict

The Vodka 48 eARC Priority is a specialist with a clear mission – and one of the few cases where deliberately leaving something out is the smarter decision. Whether your setup benefits, we can tell you after two questions: HD Zürisee in Wädenswil, 044 680 22 00, WhatsApp 076 534 22 00 (text only, no calls), or shop@hdzuerisee.ch.

Frequently asked questions

How does it differ from the normal Vodka 48?

In the construction, not in the quality stage. On the standard Vodka 48, the four picture data pairs carry the high silver content. On the eARC Priority version, the audio return-channel conductors are executed with 10% silver instead, while the picture pairs sit at Forest level. Two different tools for two different wiring jobs.

How do I know my TV uses eARC?

Check the HDMI port on your TV: the eARC-capable port is labelled "eARC" or "ARC," usually HDMI 2 or 3. Connect it to the correspondingly marked input on the soundbar or AV receiver and enable HDMI-CEC in both menus. Without CEC, the return channel stays silent on many devices.

Can I also use it from the source to the TV?

Technically, yes – it transmits the full 48 Gbit/s with 8K and 4K/120. You just wouldn't be using the strength you paid for, since the upgraded conductors sit in the audio return channel. For source to TV or receiver, the standard model is the more suitable choice.

Vodka or ThunderBird in the eARC Priority execution?

Both carry 10% silver in the eARC pair. The difference lies in the picture conductors and noise dissipation: Vodka stays at Forest level with Level 3, ThunderBird works with Cinnamon conductors and Level 5. For most TV-soundbar combinations, the Vodka is enough; we'll assess that for your system.

Why order the Vodka 48 eARC Priority at HD Zürisee?

Because eARC Priority cables require a diagnosis, not just an order number. We ask which device switches your sources and only then recommend – sometimes it's this cable, sometimes the standard model. That honesty has always been part of our advice here in Wädenswil.

Goes well with

For the run from the source to the TV, you'll find the standard Vodka 48 model under HDMI cables. The matching electronics sit in the Home cinema section, and the whole series is shown in the AudioQuest world.
