The AudioQuest ThunderBird BiWire Jumper is a ready-made speaker bridge that replaces the bundled sheet-metal strips between the terminal pairs on bi-wireable speakers. Each jumper measures about 20 centimeters and carries AudioQuest 500 series connectors on both ends.

It's the most unassuming component in any system — and at the same time the only one many manufacturers supply as stamped sheet metal, after spending months selecting components for the crossover right next to it.

Why replace the factory bridge?

Because the entire signal for the tweeter or woofer section has to pass through that piece of sheet metal, right in front of the crossover. The ThunderBird instead uses solid Perfect-Surface Copper+ — AudioQuest's high-purity, direction-controlled copper. Over that sits a conductive, carbon-loaded jacket that dissipates picked-up radio-frequency noise before it reaches the speaker. The contact ends are handled by 500 series connectors made from one-piece Purple Copper with directly applied silver.

What you get

Four jumpers per set — two per speaker, so enough for a complete stereo pair. The ends come in four combinations: spade-to-spade, spade-to-banana, banana-to-spade, or banana-to-banana. That way you get the bridge that fits your terminal without an adapter in between.

Who are the ThunderBird Jumpers for — and who aren't they for?

For bi-wireable speakers that already have a decent cable attached and where the last twenty centimeters shouldn't remain the weakest link. Straight talk: if your speaker has only one pair of terminals, there's nothing to bridge — then the money is better spent on the speaker cable itself. And anyone already running two complete cable pairs doesn't need jumpers either.

Our verdict

Of all upgrades with a manageable effort, swapping the bridge is one of the most understandable: you replace a stamped part with a carefully chosen conductor, at a point that carries the full signal. Whether it's worth it for your speaker model, we'll tell you honestly at HD Zürisee in Wädenswil — even when the answer is sometimes no.

Frequently asked questions

How many jumpers does a pair of speakers need?

Four, so exactly one set. Every bi-wireable speaker has two terminal pairs that need bridging, on the positive and negative sides — that's two jumpers per cabinet. For speakers with three terminal pairs, i.e. tri-wiring, the requirement doubles.

Which connector combination is the right one?

Your terminal dictates that. If the speaker cable sits with bananas in the upper terminals, there's usually room below for spade lugs — then spade-to-spade or banana-to-spade often fits. Measure or photograph your terminal, and we'll choose the right variant together before you order.

Where exactly does the jumper sit in the signal path?

Directly in front of the crossover, between the speaker's two terminal pairs. The entire signal for whichever section isn't directly connected runs through it. That's why the quality of this short piece matters more than its twenty-centimeter length would suggest.

Why order the ThunderBird Jumpers at HD Zürisee?

Because we know your speaker model and its terminal, or look it up, before an order goes out — the wrong connector combination is the most common headache with jumpers. Reach our team in Wädenswil at 044 680 22 00, via WhatsApp 076 534 22 00 (text only, no calls), or at shop@hdzuerisee.ch.
