The AudioQuest SureGrip 300 is a screw-clamped speaker connector made of beryllium copper, available as either a banana plug or a multi-spade lug. Four pieces per set, silver-plated, fitted without a soldering iron.

The 300 is the entry level of AudioQuest's SureGrip family — and exactly the point where a stripped cable end becomes a connection that still sits rock-solid even after the third time you've rearranged your system.

Why put connectors on speaker cable at all?

A bare copper end in a binding post is the cheapest and, at the same time, the worst solution: it oxidizes in the air, individual strands break off, and the wire twists along when you retighten it. The SureGrip 300 sets the cable end into a beryllium copper body and cold-presses it with a hex socket screw — AudioQuest calls this principle Cold-Weld. No solder, no extra transition layer, but instead a defined clamping pressure you can reproduce at any time.

What you get

Four connectors plus the matching hex key. Four pieces terminate exactly one cable run completely: two at the amplifier, two at the speaker. For a stereo pair, you therefore need two sets — a calculation that surprisingly often goes wrong. The conductor is made of beryllium copper, which is harder and conducts better than the brass otherwise commonly used; the silver layer sits directly on it rather than over a nickel or brass interlayer.

Who is the SureGrip 300 for — and who isn't it for?

For anyone who wants to terminate their speaker cable cleanly, reversibly, and without a soldering station. Gauges up to 9 AWG fit, which covers practically every living-room cable. Straight talk: if you're running a top-shelf system, you're better off reaching for the 500 series with its solid Purple Copper conductor. And whether banana or multi-spade is right depends on your binding posts — not on your taste.

Our verdict

The 300 is the sensible standard connector: an honest choice of material, a comprehensible clamping principle, no voodoo. We've been fitting it to customers' cables for years and still find it just as tight years later. If you call HD Zürisee in Wädenswil, we'll work out beforehand exactly how many sets your setup really needs.

Frequently asked questions

How many sets do I need for a stereo pair?

Two sets, so eight connectors. A speaker cable has four ends to terminate — two at the amplifier, two at the speaker — and a separate cable runs per channel. A single 4-piece set is therefore enough for exactly one speaker. We're happy to work it out with you in advance.

Banana or multi-spade — which fits my binding posts?

Your connections decide that. Screw binding posts accept both: the spade lug is screwed in under the clamping disc, while the banana plugs into the hole at the front. Pure sockets without threads only accept bananas. A multi-spade makes contact over a larger area; a banana is quicker to swap — sonically, the two differ very little.

Do I need tools or a soldering iron?

Not a soldering iron — the matching hex key is included with the set. You strip about a centimeter of cable, slide the end into the connector body, and tighten the clamping screw. That takes under two minutes per connector. On request, we'll terminate your cable for you in Wädenswil.

Why order the SureGrip 300 at HD Zürisee?

Because we'll tell you in advance which variant belongs on your binding posts and how many sets you really need. Our team has been terminating speaker cables for decades and will handle the termination for you on request as well.
