The AudioQuest Red River is an analog interconnect cable with Cinch/RCA connectors and the entry point into the River series, the only AudioQuest analog series that uses a triple-balanced geometry.

Why the Red River?

The River series differs structurally from the Bridges & Falls cables. Instead of only balancing plus and minus against each other, the Red River carries its own, third conductor solely as a ground reference. The shield therefore never has to double as a return conductor, a role it was never meant for. On top of that come solid PSC+ conductors, foamed polyethylene as insulation, and a metal layer that dissipates high-frequency interference before it can modulate the ground plane of the devices. The connectors are cold-welded and gold-plated.

What you get

A fully terminated stereo pair with RCA connectors, length 0.5 to 6 metres, special lengths on request. The price applies per stereo pair. For systems with balanced connections, the Red River is also available as an XLR version.

Who is the Red River suitable for – and who isn't it for?

Honestly: if you're only connecting a single source and keeping an eye on the price, you're well served by the Golden Gate or Sydney. The Red River is worth it if the ground layout of your system concerns you – with a tendency to hum, long cable runs, or a system with many devices on the same mains circuit, the third conductor plays to its strength.

Our verdict

The Red River brings River construction at a price that doesn't yet hurt, making it the most interesting entry point in the entire analog range. Which length and whether Cinch or XLR – we'll sort that out together in a quick chat: HD Zürisee in Wädenswil, 044 680 22 00, WhatsApp 076 534 22 00 (text only, no calls), or shop@hdzuerisee.ch.

Frequently asked questions

What does Triple-Balanced mean and what does it bring?

Alongside the positive and negative conductors, the cable carries a third conductor that serves solely as a ground reference. This keeps the shield purely a shield, with no signal to carry back. That keeps interference out of the return path, especially over longer connections.

Cinch or rather the XLR version?

If both source and amplifier have balanced XLR connections, XLR is the more interference-resistant choice over long runs. For everything else, this applies: a good RCA connection beats a half-heartedly implemented XLR input. Tell us which sockets your devices actually have, and we'll assess that for your setup.

Is there an audible difference between the Red River and the Sydney?

Structurally, they're two different approaches: the Sydney relies on air tubes and carbon dissipation, the Red River on the third conductor and Foamed-PE. Which path works better on your system depends more on your grounding layout and cable run length than on the two cables' price tags.

Why order the Red River from HD Zürisee?

Because we look at the cable question in the context of your whole system, instead of just handing a length across the counter. We sort out termination, connector shape, and the Cinch-or-XLR question at the same time. You can reach us in Wädenswil by phone, WhatsApp, or email.

Goes well with

The balanced sibling is found in the XLR cables, more unbalanced connections in the RCA cables; everything from the brand can be found in the AudioQuest collection.
