The AudioQuest RCA Caps are a set of ten protective caps for unused RCA sockets. They close off open inputs on amplifiers, preamps or converters and dampen the high-frequency interference that an empty socket picks up like a small antenna.

Why cover empty RCA sockets?

Electrically, every unoccupied RCA input is a piece of conductor sticking out into the open. It picks up RF, switching-power-supply junk and all sorts of other high-frequency noise from the environment and feeds it to the input stage, which has no sensible use for it. The caps silence these antennas. What you hear from that isn't a new sound, but less restlessness between the notes.

What you get

Ten caps that you simply plug onto the free sockets – done, no tools, no adjustment, no manual. They sit firmly on their own and, as a side effect, keep dust and moisture away from the contacts. Ten pieces are enough for the entire back panel on most amplifiers.

Who are the RCA Caps for – and who aren't they for?

Sensible for systems with many unused RCA inputs, especially in homes full of Wi-Fi routers, dimmers and switching power supplies. Straight talk: this is fine-tuning at the top end of a cleanly built chain, not a substitute for a better source, better placement, or a proper power cable. If you're still at the beginning, invest there first – and come back to the caps later.

Our verdict

An accessory where managing expectations is half the battle. The RCA Caps don't deliver an aha moment, but a bit more calm in the background – and, as a nice side effect, clean sockets for years to come. Whether they change anything in your system depends heavily on your environment; give us a call and we'll give you our honest assessment. Frequently asked questions

What do caps on empty RCA sockets actually do?

They close off inputs that would otherwise act as small antennas, picking up high-frequency interference and feeding it into the circuit. That becomes audible as a somewhat calmer background and clearer fine detail. A fine-tune, not an overhaul – if you're expecting a leap like from a new speaker, you're looking in the wrong place.

How many caps are in the set?

Ten pieces. That usually covers all the free RCA sockets on a well-equipped integrated amp or preamp. If you have a larger system with many unused inputs, add a second set. Count them beforehand, then you only order once.

Do the caps also protect against dust and oxidation?

Yes, that's the tangible side effect. Closed sockets don't accumulate a layer of dust and oxidize more slowly. If you need the input again years later, the contact is still clean and you won't have to reach for contact spray first. This pays off especially with devices that are rarely rewired.

Do they fit every RCA socket?

On standard-compliant RCA sockets, yes – they're simply plugged on and sit firmly by themselves. On very tightly built connection panels, it can get snug in individual spots. If in doubt, send us a photo of your device's back panel and we'll take a look before you order.

Why buy the AudioQuest RCA Caps from HD Zürisee?

Because we assess tuning accessories honestly instead of talking them up bigger than they are. Our expert team in Wädenswil will tell you whether the caps help your system or whether your money would do more good elsewhere. Just ask – by phone, WhatsApp or email.
