The AudioQuest NRG-Z3 is the flagship of the NRG series: a three-pole C13 power cable that combines cleaner conductors, more cross-section and a patented noise dissipation system.
Here the NRG line ends and, in spirit, what AudioQuest does in its larger series already begins. If the Y3 made you realize that power really is a topic, the Z3 is the last step before things get noticeably more expensive.
Why the NRG-Z3?
Because it improves on three fronts at once. First, the copper: Perfect-Surface Copper has such a smooth surface that considerably less distortion occurs at the boundary layer – exactly where high-frequency content likes to travel. Second, the cross-section, which at 2.08 mm² offers noticeably more headroom. And third, noise dissipation: silver-plated drain conductors and AudioQuest's RF/ND process carry high-frequency dirt specifically to ground instead of leaving it in the device. On top of that, ZERO-Tech ensures load peaks aren't compressed.
What you hear
Quiet, and more persistently so than with the smaller models. Instruments stand more firmly in place, room reverberation trails off further, and complex passages stay sorted where there used to be clutter. The much-cited black background isn't a cliché here – it's simply what's left once you consistently route noise outside.
Who is the NRG-Z3 suited for?
For well-sorted systems where the source, preamp and amplifier are already right and the last veil is bothering you. Honestly: on an entry-level chain it's overkill – you'll get more out of your money elsewhere there. And for power amps with very high current demand, the Wind or Storm series is the more logical choice. The Z3 is the specialist for demanding sources and integrated amplifiers with a C13 input.
Our verdict
The NRG-Z3 marks the point where a power cable stops being an accessory and becomes part of the system. It's honestly built, technically well justified, and delivers exactly what it promises – no more, but certainly no less.

Frequently asked questions
What sets Perfect-Surface Copper apart from ordinary copper?
The surface quality of the conductor. High-frequency signal content tends to travel along the outside of a conductor; irregularities there create distortion. PSC is drawn so this surface stays especially smooth. That's exactly why AudioQuest only uses it from the higher tiers upward.
What are the silver-plated drain conductors for?
They collect high-frequency noise and route it out through the protective earth before it reaches the electronics. Silver conducts better than copper at the surface, which matters precisely at these high frequencies. The result: less dirt arrives where it would disturb the music signal.
Is one NRG-Z3 enough, or do I need several?
Start with one, on the most sensitive component. A single good cable on the right device achieves more than three mediocre ones everywhere. Exactly where that point lies in your system depends on the setup – we're happy to look at it with you.
Does the Z3 work with a power filter?
Yes, and that's often the most effective spot. As the feed from the wall socket to the filter, it supplies every device connected to it. Just make sure the 10 A rating matches the sum of your loads – with powerful power amps it can otherwise get tight.
Why order the NRG-Z3 from HD Zürisee?
Because a cable of this class deserves proper context, not just a product description. We'll tell you which component benefits from it and when you're better off waiting. Call us or write: 044 680 22 00 · WhatsApp 076 534 22 00 (text only, no calls) · shop@hdzuerisee.ch.
