The AudioQuest Golden Gate is an analog interconnect cable with RCA connectors whose solid conductors are Perfect-Surface Copper (PSC) – copper whose surface is smoothed through a dedicated process.

Why the Golden Gate?

Between the Evergreen and the Golden Gate lies a single, but effective, change: the conductor metal. Because audio signals prefer to travel near the surface, roughness there directly translates into distortion – exactly where PSC processing comes in. The rest of the construction stays consistent: foamed polyethylene insulation, a metal layer against high-frequency interference, and the asymmetrical dual-balanced geometry with a low-impedance ground path. The connectors are cold-welded rather than soldered. Nobody really needs one more solder joint in the signal path.

What you get

A terminated stereo pair with cold-welded, gold-plated RCA connectors in lengths from 0.6 to 20 meters. 3.5 mm jack and DIN are possible on request, as are special lengths. Priced per stereo pair.

Who is the Golden Gate suited for – and who isn't it for?

Honestly: if you're cabling a compact system or a second system, the Evergreen will take you far and save you the extra cost. But if you're running a decent stereo chain and want to know what your DAC or turntable really delivers, this is the point where upgrading starts to pay off.

Our verdict

The Golden Gate is one of those products that has stayed in the lineup for years simply because it works – no marketing fireworks, just clean metal and cleanly built connectors. Frequently asked questions

How does PSC differ from ordinary copper?

Perfect-Surface Copper is processed so the conductor surface stays especially smooth. Because the audio signal prefers to travel near the surface, roughness there has a direct effect on distortion. Compared with the Evergreen's LGC copper, this is the decisive construction change, and it's the only real difference between the two tiers.

What does cold-welded mean for the connector?

The conductor and connector are joined under high pressure instead of being soldered. This removes solder as an extra, less conductive metal from the signal path. It also makes the joint mechanically very stable, and it doesn't age the way a solder joint does over the years.

Is a branded cable worth it even on short runs?

Short runs are more forgiving, but connector quality and contact pressure still matter, especially on connections you rarely move. A cleanly built cable protects you from scratchy contacts and drifting contact resistance, which over time can show up as diffuse noise or a fluctuating level.

Why order the Golden Gate at HD Zürisee?

Because we carry the whole AudioQuest ladder in-house and can tell you which tier fits your amplifier and your source. Add to that custom termination, including odd lengths and mixed connector types. Get in touch in Wädenswil – a call, a WhatsApp message or an email is enough.

Goes well with

Fitting neighbors are found among the RCA cables and in the sources category; the brand's complete range is in the AudioQuest collection.
