The AudioQuest Forest is an optical digital cable (Toslink) whose polymer fiber is purer and lower-scatter than the Pearl's. A 3.5mm mini adapter is included by the manufacturer, so the cable fits both large and small optical jacks.
Why the Forest?
Scatter is the real enemy with light guides: the more a light pulse spreads out along the way, the fuzzier the moment becomes at which the DAC recognizes it. The Forest therefore uses a purer fiber with precision-polished ends, held in Toslink connectors with a brass ferrule. The timing stays clearer, the background becomes calmer.
What you get
More focus. Instruments get cleaner edges, the space between them feels emptier rather than hazy. And because the mini adapter is included, the same cable will also work on your laptop tomorrow, even if it's plugged into the TV today.
Who is the Forest suited for – and who isn't it?
Plainly put: if you only listen to news and series through a small soundbar, you'll barely notice the extra cost over the Pearl. As soon as a decent DAC, a streamer or a larger soundbar is involved, the Forest is the sensible tier.
Our verdict
The tier at which optical stops being a necessary evil. Solidly built, fairly positioned, practical with the adapter. We'll work out which length fits your setup in two minutes: HD Zürisee in Wädenswil, 044 680 22 00, WhatsApp 076 534 22 00 (text only, no calls) or shop@hdzuerisee.ch.

Frequently asked questions
Does the Forest come with an adapter for mini-optical jacks?
Yes. AudioQuest supplies the Forest Optical as a Toslink-to-Toslink cable together with a 3.5mm mini adapter; the manufacturer explicitly calls the model the Forest Optical plus Mini-Adaptor. That means the same cable fits both a full-size Toslink jack and a combined mini-optical output.
What's the difference between the Forest and the Pearl?
The fiber. Both use polymer, but the Forest's is purer and lower-scatter, likewise with precision-polished ends. Less scatter means less jitter, so clearer timing. In practice you'll hear more focus and a calmer background as soon as the DAC or soundbar can show those differences at all.
Is a better optical cable worth it on a soundbar?
That depends on the soundbar. On simple models with small drivers, the gain stays small; on larger systems with their own DAC, you'll genuinely hear more calm and definition. Tell us which model you have and we'll give you an honest assessment instead of a blanket upsell.
Why should I buy the Forest from HD Zürisee?
Because we recommend cables based on your system, not a price list. We'll also tell you when the smaller tier is enough. On top of that: length advice, help with running the cable from our technician Mauri, and a direct line via 044 680 22 00 or WhatsApp 076 534 22 00 (text only, no calls).
Goes well with
Around the Forest: further tiers are among the optical cables, the coaxial alternative is among the coaxial cables, the matching receiver is among the DACs & D/A converters, and the full range is in the AudioQuest world.
