The AudioQuest Angel is an analog interconnect cable with Cinch/RCA connectors, whose solid conductors are made of pure Perfect-Surface Silver and which carries an active 72-volt Dielectric-Bias System.

Why the Angel?

The difference to the Yosemite lies in the metal. Silver conducts better than any copper, and Perfect-Surface Silver is additionally processed for surface quality, because grain boundaries and roughness translate directly into distortion there. The construction around it remains uncompromising: FEP air tubes as dielectric, the three-layer carbon-based Noise-Dissipation System with full-surface coverage, the asymmetrical double-balanced geometry, and the 72-volt DBS that permanently biases the insulation. The RCA connectors are cold-welded and directly silver-plated onto Red-Copper.

What you get

A terminated stereo pair with silver conductors, active DBS battery pack including test button and LED, and directly silver-plated RCA connectors. Available from 0.6 to 20 metres, special lengths and different terminations on request. The price is per stereo pair.

Who is the Angel suitable for – and who isn't it for?

To be blunt: below a truly uncompromisingly built system, the Angel isn't the most sensible investment – there, the same budget spent on speakers, room acoustics, or the source brings more. In a system that's already resolved right up to its limit, on the other hand, it delivers exactly that last bit of openness that's hard to get with copper.

Our verdict

The Angel is a silver cable without the harshness silver is often accused of – more composed than spectacular, and that's exactly where its quality lies. Whether it's the right answer for your system is something we check together, with no sales pressure: HD Zürisee in Wädenswil, 044 680 22 00, WhatsApp 076 534 22 00 (text only, no calls) or shop@hdzuerisee.ch.

Frequently asked questions

Does a silver cable automatically sound brighter?

No. That reputation comes from simple silver cables with rough conductor surfaces and poor dielectrics. Perfect-Surface Silver in FEP air tubes behaves differently: more open and finely drawn, but tonally neutral. A system that's already bright doesn't get brighter from it, just more transparent, and a warm-tuned one doesn't lose its warmth.

What's the difference to the Yosemite?

Solely the conductor material. The Yosemite uses Perfect-Surface Copper+, the Angel uses solid Perfect-Surface Silver. FEP air tubes, the three-layer carbon system, the geometry, and the 72-volt DBS are the same in both. The silver is thus the only – but also by far the most expensive – component of this step up within the series.

Does the Angel need a break-in period?

Less than comparable cables without a bias system. The DBS keeps the insulation constantly biased, so the condition right after plugging in comes close to that of a broken-in cable. A few hours of operation to mechanically settle the plug contacts still doesn't hurt, but that applies equally to any new cable.

What do you get from buying the Angel at HD Zürisee?

An honest assessment of whether your system can carry this class, and if in doubt, advice to spend the budget elsewhere instead. On top of that, custom-made termination and support after purchase. You can reach our specialist team in Wädenswil by phone, WhatsApp, or email.
