The Audio Analogue Maestro Anniversary with RR volume control is a purely analogue stereo integrated amplifier with 150 W into 8 Ω, where level control runs via relays and precision resistors.

In natural aluminium it looks almost understated: clean edges, one control knob, a narrow display. That this chassis holds 31 kilos of power supply, heatsinks and output stage only becomes clear when you lift it — or hear the first note.

Why the Maestro Anniversary with RR control?

Because the volume control is the component every signal has to pass through before it's amplified. Audio Analogue solves this here without a potentiometer: relays switch in matched precision resistors in fine steps, entirely within the analogue domain. The foundation remains the proven Maestro — dual mono with one toroidal transformer of around 600 VA per channel, 67,200 µF of filter capacitance, four transistor pairs per channel, 7N-OCC copper internal wiring and no global feedback. Power: 150 W into 8 Ω, 300 W into 4 Ω, 500 W into 2 Ω.

What you hear

Tracking. Both channels are attenuated exactly equally, so the image stays stable even at low levels and the vocal sits exactly where it belongs. Add to that the familiar Maestro virtues: a background around 100 dB signal-to-noise ratio, bandwidth up to 90 kHz, and a 0.2 Ω output impedance that keeps even sluggish woofers under control. After two weeks, what mainly strikes you is that nothing strikes you anymore.

Who is the Maestro Anniversary with RR control for?

For people who listen a lot and at varying volumes — that's where the control shows its advantage. Straight talk: if you're after an all-in-one solution, you're in the wrong place. There's no DAC, no network module, no phono stage, no headphone output and no preamp output. And if your rack is only 45 cm deep, measure again before ordering.

Our verdict

The most consistent version of the Maestro Anniversary, without changing its power or construction — exactly one component was improved, and improved properly. What that brings to your room is something we'll assess for you rather than promise: HD Zürisee in Wädenswil, 044 680 22 00, WhatsApp 076 534 22 00 (text only, no calls) or shop@hdzuerisee.ch.

Frequently asked questions

How does the Maestro Anniversary RR differ from the standard model?

Only in the volume control. The standard model uses electronically switched resistor chains; the RR version controls level purely analogue via relays and precision resistors. Power, power supply, output stages, connections, dimensions and weight are the same for both. If you don't need the finer control, you lose nothing sonically and get the same amplifier.

Do I need to configure anything for the RR control?

No, you simply turn the knob. The relays switch the resistors in automatically, in stages, audible only as a faint click inside the chassis — that's normal, not a fault. Everything also works via the remote control, including input selection. This amplifier doesn't need more operation than that.

Which sources can I connect?

All analogue high-level sources: CD player, streamer, DAC, or a turntable with a separate phono preamp. You get three RCA and two balanced XLR inputs at 47 kΩ input impedance. There are no digital connections — anyone wanting to add a digital source needs an external converter in front.

How much space does the amplifier need?

Plan for 450 mm width, 168 mm height and 550 mm depth — depth is the critical figure, since many racks are tighter than that. Add 31 kg of weight and room behind the unit for cables and airflow. A sturdy shelf is a must, no wobbly furniture.

Why buy the Maestro Anniversary RR in Silver from HD Zürisee?

Because an amplifier this size shouldn't end up in a stairwell courtesy of a parcel courier. We deliver, set up, connect, and check whether the combination works with your speakers. The HD Zürisee team is happy to answer questions beforehand via WhatsApp at 076 534 22 00 (text only, no calls) or at shop@hdzuerisee.ch.

Goes well with

To give the fine control something to do: floorstanding speakers or bookshelf speakers as a playing partner, a DAC for digital sources and the matching phono preamp if vinyl is joining the party. The whole brand is in the Audio Analogue collection.
