The Atlantis Lab SUB AT 33 is a passive subwoofer with a 31 cm main woofer and a 26 cm auxiliary diaphragm that plays from 27 to 200 Hz and needs an external power amplifier.

The French manufacturer Atlantis Lab, founded in 1998 by Eric Buy, builds it with Eighteen Sound drivers in a cabinet of faux leather and oak. There is no amplifier inside – which leaves you free to choose the power amp yourself.

Why the SUB AT 33?

The SUB AT 33 combines a 31 cm main woofer with a 26 cm auxiliary diaphragm in a bass-reflex cabinet. With 100 dB sensitivity, 8 Ω impedance and 2000 W power handling, it is built with plenty of headroom; the manufacturer recommends a power amplifier with 500 W. The Atlantis Lab spikes (Pann Audio) decouple the cabinet from the floor.

Because it is passive, you choose which power amp drives the bass – and with it, how it sounds.

What you hear

The manufacturer quotes 27 to 200 Hz at ±1 dB. That is deep enough to carry organ pedals, double basses and film effects. A good subwoofer barely draws attention while playing – you only notice it when you switch it off and suddenly something is missing.

Who is the SUB AT 33 for?

For stereo and home-cinema setups that should get a solid bass foundation and that already have a powerful power amp or plan for one. Plain talk: the SUB AT 33 is passive.
