Collection: Headphone Cable
A headphone cable connects the headphones to an amplifier or source – as a replacement for a broken cable, as an upgrade, or in a balanced version.
Why a good headphone cable?
On many good headphones, the cable is detachable – and therefore replaceable. That's handy if the original cable breaks, is too short, or you want to switch to a balanced connection. A solid cable with clean connectors and matching length ensures reliable contact and freedom of movement, without a channel dropping out after a few months.
What matters
What matters is the right connector on the headphone side (it differs by model and manufacturer) and the right plug for the source – 3.5 mm, 6.3 mm or a balanced connection such as 4.4 mm Pentaconn or XLR. At HD Zürisee in Wädenswil we check which connection your headphones use and which plug matches your amplifier, so the upgrade or replacement cable really fits.
Who it's for – and straight talk
For anyone with detachable headphone cable: as a replacement for a broken original cable, for more length, or for switching to a balanced connection on a suitable headphone amp.
Straight talk: the biggest, most reliable gain is practical: an intact cable, the right length, the matching plug. A balanced cable can bring more power and a quieter background on suitable devices. We don't promise you sonic miracles from cable material alone – we tell you what's realistic.
Verdict: the right connection on the headphone side, matching plug, solid length – then your headphones are fully usable again or sensibly upgraded. Tell us your model, and we'll assign the right cable.
Frequently asked questions
Does every cable fit my headphones?
No, the connector on the headphone side differs by model and manufacturer – for example 2-pin, MMCX or model-specific connectors. What matters is that the cable matches your exact headphones. Tell us the model, and we'll find the right one.
What does a balanced headphone cable give you?
On a headphone amp with a balanced output, it can deliver more power and keep the background quieter. This does require a suitable amplifier, though. Without one, the balanced connector brings no advantage. We clarify whether switching is worthwhile for you.
Do I even need an upgrade cable?
Not necessarily. The most common reason is a broken or too-short original cable, or the wish for a balanced connection. If your existing cable is intact and fits, you don't need to change anything. We advise you honestly based on need.
What plugs to the source are there?
Common are 3.5 mm and 6.3 mm for the classic unbalanced connection, as well as 4.4 mm Pentaconn or XLR for balanced outputs. Which one fits depends on your amplifier. We choose the plug to match your device.
Can I simply replace a broken headphone cable?
If your headphones have a detachable cable, yes – that's one of the advantages of this design. You just need the matching replacement cable with the right connection. With a permanently attached cable, a repair is needed; we advise you on that too.
Why buy headphone cable at HD Zürisee?
Because we know your headphones' connector and the matching plug for your amplifier – so replacement or upgrade fits first time. We advise you honestly on whether balanced makes sense for you. We help you personally and deliver throughout Switzerland – free shipping from CHF 190.
