Straight talk: it's for anyone who wants to run a complete 5.1 home theater with equal power on every channel – or who wants their AV preamplifier, say an Anthem AVM 70 or AVM 90, to be relieved of amplifier duty entirely. It's not for you if you listen mostly to stereo: that's what the smaller siblings with two or three channels are for. Nor if your rack is tight and poorly ventilated – 27.5 kilos want a stable, airy spot. And anyone going to 7.1 or height channels needs an additional power amplifier on top.

What preamplifier do I need for the MCA 525 GEN 2?

A preamplifier or an AV processor – the power amplifier has neither volume control nor source selection. An Anthem AVM 70 or AVM 90 is the obvious choice, but technically any processor with XLR or RCA outputs works. An AV receiver with pre-outs also works, and gets noticeably relieved in the process.

Can the MCA 525 GEN 2 be run bridged?

No, Anthem's manual doesn't provide for bridged operation. It remains a five-channel power amplifier with no mono switch.
