Sangean U5 DBT Worksite Radio with DAB+, IP65

The Sangean U5 DBT is a compact worksite radio with DAB+, FM-RDS and Bluetooth that shrugs off any job-site condition with IP65 protection and a protective roll cage.

Less weight, lower price, same protection class: the U5 DBT is the handy version of the worksite radios and fits where a big unit would be in the way.

Why the U5 DBT?

Because it does the essentials and takes up little space. It receives DAB+ and FM with RDS and station presets, streams via Bluetooth, plays from AUX and USB and charges your phone through the USB output. It runs from the mains adapter or on six AA cells.

What you hear

Solid 3-inch sound with 6 watts on mains power and 4 watts on batteries. Treble and bass are adjusted separately, and there is EQ and loudness. The backlit LCD shows time and station, and alarm, snooze and sleep timer are built in.

Who is the U5 DBT for?

For anyone who wants a tough radio for the building site, garage, garden or terrace but does not need the big format. Plainly put: the smaller speaker fills a loud hall less than the large models, and at around 3 kilos it is still no lightweight. For more punch, look at the U4 DBT+ or U4X.

Frequently asked questions

How tough is the Sangean U5 DBT?

It is protected to IP65 against dust and water jets and surrounded by a roll cage that absorbs knocks. That is just right for the building site, workshop and garden. Submersion is not intended, as IP65 does not mean immersion-proof.

Does the U5 DBT run on batteries?

Yes. It works with six AA cells or on the 12 V mains adapter. On batteries the output is 4 watts, on mains 6 watts. That keeps it usable where no socket is within reach.

Do I need a subscription to listen to the radio?

No. You receive DAB+ and FM without a subscription. Bluetooth, AUX and USB are optional for your own music. The radio also works without a phone or streaming service, simply with your favourite stations.

Can I charge my phone with the U5 DBT?

Yes. The USB-A output delivers 5 volts and 1 ampere and tops up a smartphone. It is meant as an emergency top-up, not a fast charger. Handy when the socket is far away.

What is the difference from the U4 DBT+?

The U4 DBT+ is larger, with a 6½-inch speaker, 7 watts on mains, NFC pairing and aptX decoding. The U5 DBT is more compact and lighter, with a 3-inch speaker and around 3 kilos, but less powerful.
