Yamaha YH-4000 – orthodynamics at half the flagship budget
The YH-4000 takes technology and design directly from the flagship YH-5000SE, but delivers it for roughly half the price. Open-back over-ear with an ultra-thin orthodynamic (planar-magnetic) driver, hand-built in Japan.
Sound
Tuned a bit more intimate and energetic than its bigger sibling: fast, precise transients, very good resolution and an open soundstage. PET mesh filters regulate internal pressure and give the mids and bass a bit more body. At 97 dB/mW it runs fine on modest sources, but noticeably rewards a good headphone amplifier.

Straight talk
The YH-4000 sounds close to the 5000SE – the difference lies mainly in the accessories: only one unbalanced cable, hybrid pads instead of two pad sets, no aluminium stand. If you want to connect balanced, you'll need the HBC-SC020 separately. In return, you get Yamaha's orthodynamic sound at a noticeably lower entry price.
