The Yamaha True X Speaker 1A (WS-X1A) is a portable battery speaker that also serves as a wireless surround rear speaker within the True X system.

Two devices in one: indoors and outdoors a handy Bluetooth speaker – on the True X system a wireless rear with no speaker cable. With its battery and IP67 protection you can take it out onto the terrace, then bring it back as a surround speaker in the living room.

Why the True X Speaker 1A?

Because it solves the most annoying part of a surround system: the rear speakers. Two of them turn a True X Bar into real all-round surround – completely wireless. And when there's no movie on, you simply take them with you: paired as a stereo pair or individually, via Bluetooth 5.

What you hear

Surprisingly mature for its size: a 55 mm full-range driver with passive radiator delivers pleasantly full sound in a small room – at the dinner table, in the bedroom or on the balcony. In surround mode it delivers the rear effects precisely and in lip-sync thanks to a direct wireless link to the bar.

Who is the True X Speaker 1A suited for? (Straight talk)

For anyone with a True X Bar who wants to upgrade wirelessly to real surround – and for anyone looking for a rugged speaker to take along. Straight talk: as a surround rear it needs the bar as its base; on its own it's a Bluetooth speaker, not a home cinema. For the full effect you need two units (or go straight for the PK-TRUE50A set). It has no upward-firing Atmos channel – it plays the surround, not the height layer.

Our verdict

Cleverly solved: a speaker with genuine dual use that makes the True X system flexible and living-room-friendly. Whether buying individually or the set is the better choice is something we're happy to work out with you at HD Zürisee in Wädenswil.

Two units for the two rear channels – or go straight for the PK-TRUE50A complete set with bar, subwoofer and two speakers.
