Yamaha SR-B40A – Dolby Atmos soundbar with wireless subwoofer

The SR-B40A takes the SR-B30A a step further: soundbar plus a separate, wireless subwoofer. That gives noticeably more low-end bass and level straight out of the box – without a cable running across the living room.

Sound & features

The included wireless subwoofer connects automatically to the bar and provides the foundation a solo soundbar can't. Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual:X widen the soundstage, Clear Voice makes dialogue intelligible, and the Game Mode optimizes sound for gaming.

Connection & placement

HDMI eARC for a single cable to the TV and control via the TV remote, plus an optical input and Bluetooth for music. You place the subwoofer freely in the room – it communicates wirelessly with the bar.

Straight talk – what you should know

Here too, Atmos is generated virtually, not via ceiling speakers – the soundstage becomes wider and a bit higher, but it's not real overhead sound. The wireless sub needs a power outlet. Anyone who wants a more compact solution without a separate sub should get the SR-B30A; anyone who wants more bass and level from the start is clearly better served by the SR-B40A.
