Yamaha RX-V6A – 7.2-channel home cinema with Dolby Atmos
The RX-V6A is where Yamaha's RX-V series really gets into home cinema: seven amplified channels, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, seven HDMI inputs and a full-fledged phono input for your turntable. If you're planning a 5.1.2 Atmos setup or classic 7.1 and want to stay flexible, this is the sensible mid-range receiver.
Sound & amplification
Seven channels at 100 W (8 Ω, 20 Hz–20 kHz, two channels driven, 0.06% THD) provide plenty of headroom for normal living rooms. YPAO with R.S.C. and multi-point measurement balances the room, and CINEMA DSP 3D extends the spatial effect. This lets you run a 5.1.2 Atmos system, a 7.1 setup, or a 5.1 configuration with bi-amping or front presence speakers.
Surround & HDMI
Seven HDMI inputs and one output, three of which offer the full 8K/60 and 4K/120 bandwidth (HDMI 2.1), plus HDCP 2.3 and eARC. Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HLG and BT.2020 pass through, and gaming features include ALLM and VRR. It decodes Dolby Atmos including height virtualization, DTS:X, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. Via the genuine, amplified Zone 2 you can supply a second room.
Streaming & sources
MusicCast turns the RX-V6A into a multiroom hub: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect as well as TIDAL, Deezer, Amazon Music and more. Voice control via Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri, radio via the DAB+/FM tuner. A phono input (MM) is built in for vinyl, and wireless rears via MusicCast Surround are possible.
Straight talk – what you need to know
The RX-V6A amplifies seven channels – anything beyond 5.1.2 (Atmos) or 7.1 isn't possible internally. The pre-outs are limited to front or zone, so expanding to 5.1.4 with an external power amp isn't supported. And note: only three of the seven HDMI inputs are fully 8K/4K-120-capable. If you want four height channels and upgradability from the start, look to the Aventage series (RX-A4A and up). But for the vast majority of living-room cinemas, the RX-V6A is more than enough.

Frequently asked questions
Does the RX-V6A support Dolby Atmos?
Yes. With seven channels you can run a 5.1.2 Atmos setup with two ceiling or upward-firing speakers. DTS:X is also decoded, and without height speakers, Dolby Atmos height virtualization helps.
What's the difference from the RX-V4A?
The RX-V6A has two more channels (7.2 instead of 5.2), supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, offers seven instead of four HDMI inputs, a genuine amplified Zone 2, and a phono input.
Can I expand the system to 5.1.4?
Not internally – the RX-V6A amplifies a maximum of seven channels and the pre-outs are limited to front/zone. For four height channels with an external power amp, you need an Aventage model from the RX-A6A upward.
Does the RX-V6A have a phono input?
Yes, an MM phono input. You connect turntables with a moving-magnet cartridge directly, without a separate phono preamp.
Why buy the RX-V6A at HD Zürisee?
Because we've known since 1997 when Dolby Atmos is worth it for your own room and when the simpler option is enough – on paper, all channel counts look impressive. At HD Zürisee in Wädenswil we work out the right speaker combination for your 5.1.2 or 7.1 setup with you.
