Yamaha RX-A8A AVENTAGE – the 11.2 flagship with all eleven power amps internal
The RX-A8A is the top of the AVENTAGE series – and the first Yamaha receiver with eleven internal power amps on board. This lets you run a complete 7.2.4 system with four height speakers directly from the unit, with no external power amp at all. On top come two ESS SABRE ES9026PRO Ultra DACs, Surround:AI, Auro-3D and the full 8K HDMI feature set. If you want uncompromising home cinema in a large, serious room, this is your destination.
Sound & amplification
Eleven channels at 150 W (8 Ω, 20 Hz–20 kHz, two channels driven, 0.06% THD; 220 W at 1 kHz, one channel) confidently drive even demanding speakers in large rooms. Two ESS SABRE ES9026PRO Ultra DACs convert for all channels, and Yamaha's D.O.P.G. concept (DAC on Pure Ground) keeps the noise floor low. Surround:AI analyzes the sound scene in real time, and YPAO R.S.C. measures with 3D capture, multi-point, Precision EQ and Low-Frequency Mode. The AVENTAGE construction with a double bottom and the A.R.T. Wedge – with a brass insert in the fifth foot on the A8A – keeps stray vibration low.
Surround & HDMI
Seven HDMI inputs and three outputs, all to HDMI 2.1 with 8K/60 and 4K/120, HDCP 2.3 and eARC. Picture with Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+, HLG and BT.2020; for gaming, ALLM and VRR. It decodes Dolby Atmos and DTS:X – both with height virtualization – as well as Auro-3D, plus Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio via CINEMA DSP HD³. With eleven internal power amps, a genuine 7.2.4 runs directly from the receiver; multi-zone operation via Zone 2/3/4 is possible.
Streaming & sources
MusicCast turns the RX-A8A into a multiroom hub: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, TIDAL, Qobuz, Deezer, Amazon Music HD and more. Voice control via Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri, radio via the DAB+/FM tuner, plus an MM phono input for your turntable. For custom installation there's IP control and drivers for Crestron, Control4 and URC; wireless rears via MusicCast Surround are possible.
Straight talk – what you need to know
The RX-A8A is uncompromising – and priced accordingly. For a 5.1.2 or 7.1 living room, it's simply overkill; the RX-V6A, TSR-700 or RX-A2A are more than enough there. Its purpose lies in large, serious home cinemas with four height channels, where the eleven internal power amps play out their decisive advantage over the RX-A6A, which still needs an external power amp for full 7.2.4. Also honestly: the 150 W refer to two driven channels – with all eleven driven simultaneously, continuous power is lower. And the platform comes from the 2020s AVENTAGE generation – with 8K HDMI 2.1 it's still technically top-tier, but not a brand-new model. If you really want all eleven channels amplified internally and have the space for it, this is the best AVENTAGE has to offer.

Frequently asked questions
How many speakers can the RX-A8A drive?
Eleven power amps are built in internally, so you run a complete 7.2.4 system with four height speakers directly from the receiver – with no additional power amp. That's the main difference from the RX-A6A.
What's the difference between the RX-A8A and the RX-A6A?
The RX-A6A amplifies nine channels internally and needs an external power amp for full 7.2.4. The RX-A8A has all eleven power amps on board plus two ESS DACs instead of a single one. Otherwise, both AVENTAGE models are closely related: Auro-3D, Surround:AI, 8K HDMI.
Does the RX-A8A support Auro-3D?
Yes. Alongside Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, the RX-A8A also decodes Auro-3D, mastering all three common 3D sound formats.
Is the RX-A8A worth it for a normal living room?
Probably not. For 5.1.2 or 7.1 it's overkill; the RX-V6A, TSR-700 or RX-A2A are enough for that. The RX-A8A shows its strengths in large home cinemas with four height channels and high level demands.
Why buy the RX-A8A at HD Zürisee?
Because we've been guiding large home cinema projects since 1997 and know exactly when eleven internal power amps really make sense – and when an RX-A6A or RX-V6A is entirely enough for your living room. At HD Zürisee in Wädenswil we plan the complete 7.2.4 setup with you, including speaker placement and matching cabling.
