Yamaha RX-A6A AVENTAGE – 9.2 channels, Auro-3D and 11.2 processing

The RX-A6A plays in the upper AVENTAGE league: nine amplified channels, 11.2 signal processing and, alongside Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, Auro-3D as well. This lets you run 5.2.4 with four height channels internally right away – or expand via the 11.2 pre-outs and an external power amp to full 7.2.4. Surround:AI, an ESS SABRE ES9026PRO DAC and the finest YPAO variant round out the package.

Sound & amplification

Nine channels at 150 W (8 Ω, 20 Hz–20 kHz, two channels driven, 0.06% THD; 185 W at 1 kHz, one channel) deliver headroom even in larger rooms. The ESS SABRE ES9026PRO Ultra DAC converts audiophile-grade, and Surround:AI optimizes the sound scene in real time. YPAO works with R.S.C., 3D measurement, multi-point, Precision EQ and Low-Frequency Mode. The AVENTAGE construction with A.R.T. Wedge keeps stray vibration low.

Surround & HDMI

Seven HDMI inputs and three outputs, all 8K/60 and 4K/120 capable (HDMI 2.1), HDCP 2.3 and eARC. Picture with Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HLG and BT.2020; gaming with ALLM and VRR. It decodes Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and Auro-3D plus height virtualization, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. Multiple zones (Zone 2/3) are possible.

Streaming & sources

MusicCast for multiroom, plus Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, TIDAL, Qobuz, Deezer, Amazon Music HD and more. Voice control via Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri, a DAB+/FM tuner, an MM phono input and MusicCast Surround for wireless rears. IP control for custom installation is included.

Straight talk – what you need to know

The RX-A6A amplifies nine channels – a full 7.2.4 (seven floor plus four height channels) requires an additional stereo power amp on the 11.2 pre-outs. If you want all eleven channels amplified internally from the start, get the flagship RX-A8A instead. And honestly: for a plain 5.1.2 or 7.1 living room, the RX-A6A is overkill – its purpose lies in larger, serious home cinemas with four height channels.

Frequently asked questions

Can the RX-A6A run a 7.2.4 system?

It amplifies nine channels internally (e.g. 5.2.4 or 7.2.2). For full 7.2.4 you connect an additional stereo power amp via the 11.2 pre-outs. Fully internal is only possible with the RX-A8A.

What is Auro-3D?

Auro-3D is a third 3D sound format alongside Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, based on a layered speaker arrangement. From the RX-A6A upward, Yamaha supports all three formats.

Is the RX-A6A worth it for a small living room?

Probably not. For 5.1.2 or 7.1, the RX-V6A or RX-A2A is enough. The RX-A6A shows its strengths in larger home cinemas with four height channels and higher level demands.

Why buy the RX-A6A at HD Zürisee?

Because we'll tell you honestly when nine channels and Auro-3D are really needed – for a simple 5.1.2 living room, the RX-A6A is often overkill. Nearly three decades of experience in home cinema help find the right level for your room at HD Zürisee in Wädenswil.
