Yamaha NS-SW050 – compact active subwoofer for a first foundation
The NS-SW050 is Yamaha's most affordable active subwoofer and the easy entry into noticeable low-end bass – as a complement to compact stereo speakers or as the ".1" channel in home cinema. Small enough to disappear next to the sideboard, powerful enough to give film and music the foundation that bookshelf speakers alone can't provide.
Technology & bass
A front-firing 20 cm woofer works together with Yamaha's Advanced YST II (Active Servo Technology): amplifier and cabinet are matched to each other and extract more, cleaner low-end bass from the small volume. The Twisted Flare Port distributes airflow more evenly and reduces port noise – even at higher levels, the bass stays precise rather than mushy.
Placement
Front-firing means the driver radiates forward, so the sub can also face a wall or sit in a niche. Volume, crossover frequency and phase let you match it to your main speakers and the room.
Straight talk – what you should know
The NS-SW050 is an entry-level sub: ideal for a small to medium living room and moderate levels, but not meant to fill a large home-cinema cave with deep-bass pressure. Anyone who listens loudly on a regular basis or has a large room is better served by the NS-SW100 or the more powerful NS-SW200/300. For stereo enhancement and normal movie watching, it fits perfectly.
